Bench Joiner / Cabinet Maker
We are looking for an experienced Bench Joiner / Cabinet Maker to join our small North London workshop team, producing high-quality bespoke fitted furniture and cabinetry.
Our work includes wardrobes, alcove units, shelving, desks, media units and other made-to-measure furniture for residential projects.
We mainly work with sheet materials including MFC, MDF and veneered boards, with the majority of our panel machining carried out using CNC. We’re looking for someone who can take those machined components and bring everything together accurately and efficiently – the skilled work that a computer can’t do.
The Role
You’ll be involved in the workshop manufacture and assembly of bespoke cabinetry, working from detailed drawings and cut parts through to finished furniture ready for installation.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Assembling bespoke cabinets, wardrobes and furniture
- Working accurately from technical drawings and measurements
- Using routers, drills, sanders, saws and other hand and power tools
- Preparing components for assembly and installation
- Fitting hardware including hinges, drawer runners and other ironmongery
- Making adjustments and carrying out manual machining where required
- Checking finished work for accuracy and quality
- Helping prepare and pack cabinetry for installation
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop
- Occasionally assisting with installation on site
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in cabinet making, bench joinery, furniture making or similar
- Good practical understanding of furniture and cabinet construction
- Confident using hand and power tools
- Able to read and work accurately from technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
- Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team
- Able to safely handle large sheets, panels and assembled cabinetry
- Reliable, organised and able to keep work moving without constant supervision
- Full clean driving licence and confidence driving a van
- Experience fitting bespoke furniture on site would be an advantage
Experience working with MFC, MDF, veneered boards, Blum hardware or CNC-produced cabinetry would also be beneficial.
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys making things properly.
You should be practical, motivated and comfortable working in a busy workshop where every project is slightly different. We value good craftsmanship, attention to detail and people who are willing to solve problems rather than simply wait to be told what to do.
If you enjoy bespoke furniture making and want to work on a varied range of high-quality residential projects, we’d be very interested to hear from you.
