The Community Empowerment Officer will strengthen the voice of ethnic minority communities across
Wirral by building trusted relationships, facilitating community forums and ensuring lived experience
informs local decision making.
The postholder will lead engagement activities, organise community forums, develop research and work
alongside local partners to improve services through genuine co-production and community-led
solutions.
+ Essential Skills & Experience
Experience delivering community engagement or community development work.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
Ability to build partnerships and collaborative relationships.
Understanding of equality, inclusion and reducing barriers.
Ability to gather community insight and influence local services.
Commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality.
+ Education and Experience
Level 3 or equivalent experience in community development, community engagement, community
work or a related field.
Desirable:
Degree or recognised qualification in Community Development, Social Policy, Public Health, Social
Work, Community Engagement or a related discipline.
Community Development qualification (e.g. CDP).
Safeguarding training.
Mental Health First Aid.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training.
+ Main Duties
Organise and facilitate quarterly Community Empowerment Forums.
Build trusted relationships with local residents, community groups and partner organisations.
Gather and analyse community feedback using surveys, workshops and engagement activities.
Produce reports highlighting community priorities and recommendations.
Represent Wirral Change at partnership meetings, networks and strategic forums.
Work closely with Drop-In Advisors to identify recurring barriers experienced by service users.
Recruit, train and support community champions and volunteers.
Promote community participation and co-production opportunities.
Monitor project outcomes and maintain accurate records using CharityLog.
Ensure all work is delivered in line with safeguarding, GDPR and equality policies.
General Responsibilities
Promote the values and mission of Wirral Change.
Work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
Attend supervision, training and team meetings.
Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
