About Teach A Trade
Teach A Trade is an established and growing technical training provider based in Telford, delivering high-quality training and assessment across the gas, electrical, renewable energy, refrigeration and building-services sectors.
Our provision includes domestic gas, LPG, F-Gas, electrical installation, Inspection and Testing, 18th Edition, Solar PV, Electric Vehicle Charging, Electrical Energy Storage Systems and vocational qualifications.
We work with individual learners, employers, funded programmes and commercial clients across the West Midlands and beyond.
Following continued growth and the expansion of our training provision, we are looking for an experienced, capable and commercially minded Gas and Electrical Training Centre Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the centre.
This is a senior and influential position within the business. The successful candidate will have the authority and support required to lead the delivery team, maintain excellent standards, improve operational performance and help shape the next stage of Teach A Trade’s growth.
The Role
The Gas and Electrical Training Centre Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the centre operates effectively, compliantly and commercially.
You will lead the gas and electrical training teams, oversee curriculum delivery, maintain awarding-organisation requirements and ensure that learners receive a consistently high-quality experience.
The role will suit an experienced centre manager, curriculum manager, training manager, lead IQA or senior technical trainer who is ready to take ownership of a growing independent training centre.
You do not need to personally teach every subject delivered by the centre. However, you must have sufficient technical, quality and operational knowledge to manage tutors, assessors and IQAs effectively, challenge poor performance and ensure that provision meets the required standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesCentre Leadership and Operational Management
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the effective operation of the training centre.
- Provide clear leadership, direction and accountability to tutors, assessors, IQAs and support staff.
- Ensure that all training, assessment and quality-assurance activity is properly planned, resourced and delivered.
- Create and maintain effective staff rotas, course timetables, assessment plans and room allocations.
- Ensure that the centre has the appropriate staffing, equipment, materials and facilities to deliver each programme successfully.
- Identify operational issues quickly and implement practical solutions.
- Support the Managing Director by taking ownership of routine operational decisions and staff management.
- Establish clear expectations across the team and ensure agreed actions are completed.
- Create a professional, accountable and supportive working culture.
Curriculum and Programme Management
- Oversee gas, electrical and renewable-energy training programmes.
- Ensure that courses are delivered in line with qualification specifications, awarding-body requirements and industry standards.
- Review the structure, duration and content of existing programmes.
- Support the development and introduction of new qualifications and commercial courses.
- Ensure that schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment materials and learner resources are current and suitable.
- Monitor course performance, learner progress, attendance, achievement and satisfaction.
- Ensure learners receive appropriate support and that concerns are acted upon promptly.
- Work with the sales and administration teams to ensure learners are enrolled onto the correct programmes.
- Ensure that course information provided to learners is accurate and consistent.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all relevant awarding organisations, certification bodies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee internal quality assurance across gas and electrical provision.
- Ensure that assessment decisions are valid, reliable, fair and appropriately documented.
- Develop and maintain effective sampling plans.
- Ensure that assessor and IQA records are accurate, complete and up to date.
- Prepare for and lead awarding-organisation visits, EQA activity, audits and centre reviews.
- Ensure that actions arising from audits or external visits are completed within the agreed timescales.
- Maintain current policies, procedures, risk assessments and centre documentation.
- Monitor staff qualifications, occupational competence, CPD and standardisation activity.
- Lead regular assessor and IQA standardisation meetings.
- Identify quality risks before they affect learner outcomes or centre approval.
- Support the completion and ongoing development of the Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.
- Work closely with the Quality and Compliance Manager to maintain high standards across the organisation.
Staff Management and Development
- Line manage tutors, assessors and relevant delivery staff.
- Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews and team meetings.
- Set clear objectives, responsibilities and performance expectations.
- Monitor staff workload and ensure duties are distributed fairly and effectively.
- Identify performance concerns and address them constructively and promptly.
- Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, CPD and technical updates.
- Ensure new staff receive a structured and effective induction.
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of tutors, assessors and IQAs.
- Build succession plans and reduce reliance on individual members of staff.
- Promote collaboration between gas, electrical, refrigeration and renewable-energy teams.
Learner Experience and Performance
- Ensure that learners receive a professional, organised and supportive experience.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, progress, completion and achievement.
- Investigate withdrawals, complaints and poor learner outcomes.
- Implement actions to improve retention and achievement.
- Ensure learners understand course expectations, assessment requirements and progression routes.
- Review learner feedback and use it to improve delivery.
- Ensure reasonable adjustments and learner-support arrangements are implemented appropriately.
- Maintain clear communication with employers where training is employer-funded or workplace-based.
- Ensure certificates and assessment outcomes are processed accurately and without unnecessary delay.
Commercial Performance and Growth
- Support the growth and profitability of the training centre.
- Monitor course capacity, utilisation, staffing costs and delivery efficiency.
- Work with the Managing Director and sales team to identify new commercial opportunities.
- Support the development of employer partnerships.
- Contribute to pricing, course scheduling and programme-development decisions.
- Ensure commercial courses are delivered efficiently while maintaining quality.
- Help increase repeat business and employer referrals.
- Identify opportunities to expand gas, electrical, renewable-energy and building-services provision.
- Support the development of the additional training facility and new practical training bays.
- Ensure the centre is prepared to respond to changes in industry demand, funding and qualification requirements.
- Balance commercial considerations with quality, compliance and learner needs.
Health, Safety and Facilities
- Ensure that training and assessment activities are carried out safely.
- Maintain effective workshop, classroom and assessment-area standards.
- Ensure equipment is maintained, inspected, calibrated and stored appropriately.
- Ensure training rigs, appliances and electrical equipment remain suitable for use.
- Review and maintain risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Ensure staff and learners follow centre health and safety procedures.
- Report and address hazards, defects and unsafe practices promptly.
- Support the planning and development of new practical training areas.
- Ensure workshops and classrooms present a professional image to learners, employers and external visitors.

Essential Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
- Significant experience within gas, electrical, building-services or technical training.
- Previous experience managing a training centre, curriculum area, department or delivery team.
- Strong knowledge of vocational training, assessment and internal quality assurance.
- Experience working with awarding organisations and external quality assurers.
- A recognised assessor qualification, such as A1, D32/D33, TAQA or equivalent.
- A recognised internal quality assurance qualification, such as V1, D34, TAQA or equivalent.
- Relevant occupational qualifications within gas, electrical or building services.
- Experience managing tutors, assessors or technical staff.
- A strong understanding of compliance, documentation and audit requirements.
- Experience monitoring learner performance and implementing improvements.
- Strong organisational and decision-making skills.
- The confidence to hold staff accountable and address performance issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good IT skills and the ability to work with management information, learner-management and quality systems.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
It would be advantageous to have:
- Experience across both gas and electrical training.
- Current or recent occupational competence within the gas or electrical sector.
- Experience managing ACS gas provision.
- Experience managing electrical qualifications, NVQs or End Point Assessment preparation.
- Experience with City & Guilds, EAL, BPEC, NICEIC, LCL Awards or similar organisations.
- Experience delivering funded training or Skills Bootcamps.
- Experience preparing for Ofsted or other regulatory review.
- A teaching qualification.
- Experience developing new qualifications or centre approvals.
- Experience managing commercial training programmes.
- Experience working within an independent training provider.
- Knowledge of renewable-energy qualifications, including Solar PV, EV Charging, EESS or heat pumps.
