Unique Care Group is a specialist therapeutic organisation providing high-quality care and education for children and young people with learning disabilities. We operate a number of residential children's homes and an independent special school, each separately registered with Ofsted, across Shrewsbury and the surrounding area.
As our organisation continues to grow, we are seeking a part-time experienced and organised Payroll Officer / Bookkeeper to join our Head Office Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated finance professional who enjoys working in a varied role, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting the wider financial administration of the organisation.
The Role
Reporting to the Directors, you will be responsible for the accurate processing of payroll across the organisation while maintaining employee records and supporting the day-to-day bookkeeping function.
This role requires exceptional attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process monthly payroll accurately and within deadlines.
- Maintain employee payroll records, including new starters, leavers and contractual changes.
- Review and process employee timesheets.
- Calculate and process overtime payments.
- Monitor and record annual leave, sick leave and other absences.
- Reconcile and verify clocking in/out records against submitted timesheets.
- Resolve payroll queries from employees in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC legislation and payroll regulations.
- Prepare payroll reports as required by management.
Bookkeeping
- Support the day-to-day bookkeeping function.
- Process purchase invoices and supplier payments.
- Reconcile bank accounts and financial records.
- Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.
- Assist with month-end procedures and finance administration.
- Provide general finance support to the wider Head Office team as required.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience in payroll administration.
- Bookkeeping or finance administration experience.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and payroll/accounting software.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional and confidential approach to handling sensitive information.
Desirable:
- AAT qualification (or working towards).
- Experience using payroll and accounting software such as Sage, Xero or similar.
- Previous experience within the health, social care or education sector.
