Job Overview
We are seeking a part-time Chef to join our pub kitchen team at The Ancient Mariner in Poets Corner. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of kitchen experience, and be keen to learn about all aspects of the management of a successful pub kitchen. This role offers an opportunity to develop kitchen skills at an established community pub with a reputation for good food, and to work with an experienced management couple and Head Chef.
This role would start at approximately 24-32 hours per week, spread over four days, between Thursday and Sunday, with scope to expand the role later on for the right candidate.
After an initial training period, this role will also be expected to lead the line occasionally, to cover any holidays taken by the Head Chef, with full support from the management team.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards
- Oversee food production processes, maintaining consistency and presentation quality
- Manage food safety protocols and ensure compliance with health regulations
- Coordinate with front-of-house teams to deliver seamless service experiences
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
- Lead by example in maintaining cleanliness, organisation, and safety within the kitchen
- Participate in menu planning and development, incorporating seasonal ingredients and innovative ideas
Skills
- Some proven experience in food production, cooking, and kitchen operations
- Sound knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail in all aspects of food service
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and management
