Our Promise. We deliver absolute confidence in environments where failure is not an option.
Everfox develops high-assurance, hardware-based cyber security (HardSec) systems for defense, government and critical national infrastructure.
We are hiring a Senior Manager to support our team in Londn, UK. This is a Senior Engineering Leadership role for a practicing hardware engineer. You will lead a hardware function of 10+ engineers and managers, and you will be accountable for delivering hardware workstreams from concept through to industrialization: capacity and resourcing, engineering process and design assurance, and predictable delivery against product commitments.
You will also act as design authority for Everfox hardware: electronics design, electrical-mechanical integration, and secure-by-design practice. You will set the technical standards, lead design reviews, make the difficult integration and security trade-offs, and remain close enough to the hardware to get on the bench when it matters. You will do this alongside senior engineers who bring deep individual-contributor design depth, so you should expect to lead technically without needing to own every schematic yourself.
Because our products protect critical national infrastructure, secure sourcing and long-term supplier relationships are a first-order concern . You will own the senior technical relationships with our component, PCB and mechanical partners, and lead lifecycle, obsolescence and supply-chain security assessment.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Hardsec Engineering, you will work closely across the software leads, the FPGA firmware team and the hardware production team.
Location: This is a hybrid role in London, UK
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leading and growing the hardware team
Lead a team of 10+ hardware engineers and junior managers; accountable for performance, capability, capacity planning and delivery across all hardware workstreams.
Own resourcing, hiring, coaching, mentoring and career development; build a bench that can scale with the product roadmap.
Set the technical bar for the team and develop senior engineers towards it.
Partner with production and product management on schedules, budgets and build readiness.
2. Delivery and product development leadership
Lead hardware workstreams using structured project management approaches — planning, estimation, dependency and risk management, and clear reporting to the leadership team.
Drive the full product development lifecycle from concept through detailed design, prototyping and validation to industrialization.
Own the interfaces into the software teams, the FPGA firmware team and hardware production so hardware commitments hold across the wider programme.
3. Technical design authority — electronics and electro-mechanical integration
Act as design authority for end-to-end electronic design: schematic capture, PCB architecture and layout optimization, high-speed digital, mixed-signal and power electronics, and robust EMC design practice, setting the approach, reviewing the work, and resolving the hard problems.
Own electrical-mechanical integration decisions across enclosures, PCB form factors, thermal interfaces, connectors, harnessing, mounting and internal assembly, defining the interface requirements and constraints that keep electrical and mechanical designs coherent.
Validate mechanical designs for electrical fit, airflow, thermal performance, manufacturability and secure-by-design alignment, and represent electrical, integration and security requirements in mechanical design reviews.
Lead EMC design, EMC testing and issue resolution.
Stay hands-on where it counts: bring-up, circuit validation, measurement and fault-finding on critical or high-risk designs.
Work closely with senior engineers in the team to divide deep design work and technical leadership sensibly, and to keep architectural decisions consistent across the platform portfolio.
4. Engineering process and continuous improvement
Develop and improve hardware engineering processes to increase efficiency, quality, repeatability and design assurance.
Establish and enforce review governance, rigorous design documentation and requirements traceability.
Lead design reviews, technical risk assessments and design-security evaluations.
5. Supplier, technology and supply chain leadership
Own supplier selection input and maintain strong, senior-level technical relationships with key partners.
Work with suppliers to evaluate new components, materials, technologies and mechanical solutions.
Lead lifecycle, suitability, risk and secure-sourcing assessments, including component lifecycle and supply-chain security analysis.
6. Design security and compliance authority
Set and uphold design security principles across the portfolio: shielding, secure zones, tamper-resistance/tamper-evidence, and protective mechanical interfaces.
Ensure designs meet applicable safety, EMC, environmental and regulatory standards by design, not by late-stage remediation.
7. Validation, qualification and transition to manufacture
Oversee structured EVT and DVT cycles and qualification activities, and support electrical, thermal, environmental, mechanical-integration and EMC testing.
Lead prototype builds, troubleshooting and iterative improvement.
Support CE/UKCA, FCC/RED and other regulatory certification processes.
Ensure DFM/DFA is applied across electronic and electro-mechanical design, and support resolution of issues with PCB fabrication, assembly and mechanical manufacturing partners.
Key Knowledge and Skills:
You will need to demonstrate, at scale:
Leadership of electronics engineering teams Managing, mentoring and developing high-performing teams (including managers) to deliver high-quality hardware products to time and quality.
Depth and breadth in electronic design High-speed and mixed-signal PCB design, power electronics and EMC design, with the hands-on credibility to act as design authority, review rigorously and challenge senior engineers.
Project management and product development Running structured hardware programmes end-to-end, from concept to industrialization, including structured hardware test and validation regimes.
Electro-mechanical integration Owning the electrical/mechanical interface on enclosed, thermally constrained products.
Process ownership A track record of introducing or materially improving engineering process, design assurance and review governance.
Supplier and supply chain leadership Owning technical supplier relationships, selection, and lifecycle/secure-sourcing assessment.
Design security Practical application of secure-by-design and tamper-resistant/tamper-evident approaches in hardware.
Standards-driven design Demonstrable experience designing hardware to meet safety, EMC, environmental and regulatory standards.
Tooling Proficiency with Altium Designer and PLM; working familiarity with SolidWorks.
Desirable skills and experience:
Familiarity with FPGA interfaces and the ability to lead architectural discussions with the firmware team; hands-on VHDL is a bonus, not a requirement.
Familiarity with SoC interfaces and the ability to lead architectural discussions with the software teams; hands-on bare-metal programming is a bonus, not a requirement.
Experience with ruggedized or secure hardware products.
Familiarity with FIPS / Common Criteria physical security expectations.
Experience with IEC/EN 62368-1 safety requirements.
Thermal or structural simulation familiarity.
CI/CD tooling and scripting (Python or similar) to automate hardware test, validation and release workflows.
A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is:
£90,300.00-183,200.00 GBP
The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a candidates' unique experience, locale, and business needs. In addition to base salary and either bonus or commission, Everfox offers a generous benefits package including competitive annual leave, pension match, PMI, dental, health cash plan, income protection, in a hybrid work environment.
