The Creature Supervisor supports a team of Creature Technical Directors on a show-to-show basis. Duties include set-up of the creature TD pipeline per show, including writing tools, hero rigging, and simulation set-up when applicable. Additionally the Creature TD Supervisor supports their team in the running of simulation shots (flesh, hair, muscle, cloth, rigid body) as well as rigging and scripting tasks. They are also responsible for triage and troubleshooting related to assets across disciplines. They delegate assignments and act as the creative, technical, and morale lead for the creature technical director team. The Creature Supervisor also provides constructive feedback on crew performance, makes recommendations and resolves issues.
Develop the aesthetic look and provide technical continuity across show(s)
Review Creature TD shotwork and provide feedback
Advanced Hero-creature or hard surface rigging and enveloping, set up and run cloth, hair, muscle, rigid body simulations
Collaborate with the CG Supervisor and Production Manager to bid, schedule, and cast shotwork
Work with global and local heads of departments to establish workflows and best practices for CFX and rigging work
Troubleshoot creature rigging issues for artists in other disciplines
Mentor Junior artists, as well as newly hired Creature TDs
Script utilities/tools/plug-ins
Makes aesthetic choices on shotwork
Estimates bids which influence hiring decisions
Participate in the hiring process for the Creature team
Special projects as needed
Proven relevant professional experience in a leadership role on a VFX film or CG animated project and a BA in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography, or related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience
Previous ILM experience beneficial
Extensive background as a Maya rigger and/or a Houdini simulation setup artist for advanced hero assets in digital animation, visual effects, games, commercials
Experience producing CG characters, creatures for visual media and in corrective sculpting.
Knowledge of anatomy and skinning

Proficiency with Linux
Expertise with Maya and Houdini
Experience with python scripting
Basic proficiency in another discipline such as Modeling, Texture, TD, or Animation is a bonus

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
