We're looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our Southampton team, leading the design and delivery of innovative highway and transport improvement schemes that make a real difference to the city.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects including active travel schemes, public realm improvements, highway safety initiatives, cycling infrastructure, bus priority measures, and urban regeneration projects
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Design Engineer, you'll take technical responsibility for the delivery of highway and civil engineering design projects from concept through to construction. You'll work closely with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and innovative solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the technical delivery of allocated design projects.
- Managing and mentoring engineers, graduates and apprentices.
- Preparing design programmes, fee estimates and resource plans.
- Monitoring project performance against programme, budget and quality requirements.
- Working collaboratively with project managers, delivery teams and client representatives.
- Managing third-party design inputs and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, industry best practice and CDM regulations.
- Supporting public consultations and engagement with local stakeholders.
- Contributing to business growth and the development of new opportunities.
Who we're looking for
We're keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:
- Proven experience delivering highways, civil engineering or transport infrastructure design projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of highway design standards and engineering principles.
- Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage project budgets, programmes and stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations and safe design practices.
- A collaborative approach with a passion for developing others.
