Family Support Worker – Wirral, Cheshire & Liverpool
Reports to: Family Support Service Lead
Location: Off-site – working within family homes and the community
Hours: Shift-based, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required

Children and young people need to grow and develop in a positive and rewarding manner, they need support and encouragement from people who are dedicated and determined to stay committed to them through challenging times. The primary objective of our Early help, Intervention & family support service is to provide high quality family centred support for children, young people and families in a variety of aspects such as: Short Breaks/Respite, SEND/complex needs, Supervised Contacts/Family Time, Mother & Babies, Behavioural Support and Early Help & Prevention Services. All these aspects are to ensure children, young people and families benefit from physical support, support with daily living, emotional support and providing information, advice and guidance.
The role of a Family Support worker involves:
- Contributing to the children’s and young person’s care plans and risk assessments, their review and implementation.
- Traveling to and working within family homes, hospitals, and various community settings, offering the highest standard of support to meet the needs of individuals and families in the following areas: Early Intervention, Respite, Family Time, Mothers & Babies, and Emergency Support
- Understanding individual responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the people you support and come in to contact with, ensuring this is implemented in your role.
- Forming effective relationships with young people, their families, and external agencies.
- Providing advice, assistance, and support on a 1:1 or 2:1basis to children, young people, and families
- Liaising with families ahead of support sessions to confirm plans, arrival times and session activities.
- Delivering and implementing support sessions in line with family support assessments and agreed plans
- Complete accurate records including daily observations, incident reports and car safety documents.
- Observing and recording all interactions between children and parents when supervising family time
- Assessing parenting skills and help families to build physical and emotional caring abilities through a range of practical activities.
- Providing budgeting advice to parents when required, supporting them to manage their finances effectively.
- Encouraging the children and young person to develop links with the community attend off-site activities and expand their personal social network.
- Meeting the emotional and physical needs of our children and young people to maximize opportunities for their development.
- Personal care may be required when supporting children with complex or additional needs
- Establishing positive relationships with children and young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
- Providing emotional support during periods of difficulty, stress or crisis.
- To maintain and promote family support to high levels of professionalism expected by Work With Vista to work as part of a team
- Being aware of the aims and objectives and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them.
- Promoting a positive and supportive team environment, sharing knowledge and experience to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved for the families, children and young people.
- Attending staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them.
- Actively contributing to the development of the team.
- Maintaining accurate records and sharing information appropriately to support effective communication.
- Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.
- Being aware of childcare plans for all young people and providing support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans.
- Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties.
- Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with the National Minimum Standards.
- Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring to any causes for concern (Whistleblowing).
- Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them.
What we are looking for from you:
- Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People or equivalent (desirable)
- Experience working with children and young people (Required)
- Passion to help nurture young people
- Be able to work flexibly, this will include days, evenings and weekends
- Full driving licence (Required)
