Summary
Title of the Post: Chef/Kitchen Assistant.
Reporting to: Café Manager.
Hours of Work: 4 days a week 7am to 3pm.

Salary: £14.25/hr.
Basis: Part-time, temporary absence cover with a possibility to extend. This role will extend to at least Christmas 26’

The Bar Convent Heritage Centre is England’s oldest living convent. It’s also home to a modern interactive Exhibition & Shop, an award winning 22-bedroom Guest House, 3 modern meeting rooms and a very popular Café.
The Cafe has an excellent reputation for food and service and holds a prestigious breakfast award and increasing busy and much loved by locals. The Trust seeks a friendly, responsible and capable Chef/Kitchen Assistant to provide support on a rota basis for absence cover, with a possibility to extend. It’s a great atmosphere in the Café and you will be part of a small and friendly team, but you will also be part of something much bigger; a financially stable charitable trust with a great reputation amongst its customers and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Salad & sandwich preparation.
- Assisting Chefs to prepare and cook hot food for Café customers and conference delegates.
- Ensuring that preparation of special foods (e.g. Gluten free), meet required standards of content and safety.
- Ensuring high levels of food quality and consistency, both in the Café and to conference delegates.
- Maintaining kitchen and storage facilities to meet H&S requirements (including HACCP record-keeping).
- Complying with all relevant H&S and Environmental Health legislation in handling of food.
- Providing appropriate paperwork to support the Chef Manager in the purchasing, monitoring and invoicing of stock.
Essential Skills/Qualifications
- 1 year’s kitchen experience.
- Food safety certificate level 1.
