About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Head Gardener / Grounds Supervisor to maintain and develop an extensive area of landscaped grounds. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable gardener who takes pride in maintaining high standards across a large outdoor area while leading and supporting a Gardening & Maintenance Assistant.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day care of the grounds, ensuring they remain attractive, safe, and well-maintained throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain lawns, borders, flower beds, shrubs, trees, and hedges to a high standard.
- Carry out pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, and general plant care.
- Monitor plant health and identify pests, diseases, or maintenance issues.
- Operate and maintain gardening machinery and equipment safely.
- Manage irrigation systems and ensure effective watering practices.
- Keep paths, driveways, and outdoor areas tidy and presentable.
- Undertake general grounds maintenance duties as required.
- Supervise, organise, and support the Gardening & Maintenance Assistant.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor work quality and productivity.
- Assist with planning maintenance schedules and prioritising workloads.
- Maintain stock levels of gardening materials, tools, and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures across the grounds.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience maintaining large gardens, estates, parks, or commercial grounds.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is desirable.
- Competence in operating gardening machinery and power tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Full driving licence preferred.
