Onboarding & Compliance Coordinator
Are you an experienced Onboarding & Compliance Coordinator with a background in early years, education or another safeguarding-focused environment? We are recruiting for a proactive and highly organised professional to join a growing childcare organisation on a long-term temporary basis.
Working within the Talent team, this is a key safeguarding and compliance position where you will ensure new starters and apprentices meet all required pre-employment and safer recruitment standards before joining the organisation.
About the Role
As the Onboarding & Compliance Coordinator, you will take ownership of the compliance and onboarding process for new employees and apprentices across a large nursery network. This is a fast-paced role requiring excellent attention to detail, persistence and the confidence to proactively chase outstanding information.
You will be responsible for ensuring all pre-employment checks are completed accurately and on time, maintaining robust records and escalating any compliance or safeguarding concerns.

Onboarding & Compliance Coordinator – Responsibilities
- Processing DBS applications and disclosures in accordance with safeguarding requirements
- Proactively chasing references, qualifications, right-to-work documentation and other pre-employment checks
- Ensuring new starters meet required compliance standards before their agreed start dates
- Applying safer recruitment and safeguarding vetting principles throughout the onboarding process
- Identifying and escalating compliance gaps, discrepancies and potential safeguarding concerns
- Maintaining accurate, audit-ready compliance and employee records
- Liaising with candidates, hiring managers and Area Managers to resolve outstanding requirements
- Monitoring onboarding progress and ensuring agreed time-to-hire SLAs are achieved
- Supporting the onboarding and compliance process for apprentices joining the organisation
- Ensuring processes remain aligned with relevant Ofsted and EYFS safeguarding requirements
Onboarding & Compliance Coordinator – Skills & Experience
- Previous compliance and onboarding experience within the early years, childcare or education sector would be desirable but not essential
- Experience completing and managing DBS checks
- Knowledge of safer recruitment and safeguarding vetting practices
- A proactive and persistent approach to obtaining references and outstanding documentation
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work accurately to strict deadlines
- Confident communication skills and the ability to professionally chase candidates, referees and internal stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple onboarding cases simultaneously
- Experience using an ATS, HR or compliance system would be advantageous
- Knowledge of EYFS safeguarding requirements and/or Ofsted compliance standards would be beneficial
