Omya is a leading global producer of industrial minerals and a worldwide distributor of specialty materials. We are currently looking for a Quarry / Production Operative to join our team at our Glenarm site in County Antrim. This is a varied, hands-on role that would particularly suit someone from a construction, agricultural, quarrying or similar practical working background.
We're not simply looking for someone to operate machinery. We need a practical, adaptable person who is comfortable working with equipment, carrying out basic maintenance, supporting production and getting involved wherever needed to keep the operation running safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of the Glenarm team, you'll be involved across quarry and production activities, including:
- Supporting the day-to-day operation of the quarry and production plant.
- Operating and monitoring production equipment and processes.
- Carrying out routine checks and basic maintenance of plant and equipment.
- Identifying faults or potential problems and helping to keep equipment running effectively.
- Operating mobile plant and equipment when required.
- Monitoring production processes and making sure products meet the required quality standards.
- Carrying out product quality checks and recording results accurately.
- Supporting the receipt of raw materials and dispatch of finished products.
- Preparing products and packaging for storage or customer delivery.
- Maintaining accurate production, quality and equipment records.
- Keeping working areas, plant and equipment clean, safe and well maintained.
- Contributing ideas and practical solutions to improve the way we work.
- Following all site health, safety and environmental procedures.
About You
We're interested in people with a strong practical background rather than someone whose experience is limited solely to operating mobile plant. You may currently work in construction, agriculture, quarrying, manufacturing, engineering or another hands-on environment where you've developed experience working with machinery, equipment and maintenance.You'll ideally have:
- A practical, hands-on approach and good mechanical awareness.
- Experience carrying out basic maintenance or working with mechanical equipment.
- Experience working in construction, agriculture, quarrying, manufacturing or a similar environment.
- The ability to identify problems and use your initiative to help resolve them.
- A strong approach to health and safety.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- The ability to complete basic paperwork and maintain accurate records.
- Basic computer skills.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, overtime and weekends as required.
- The ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a quarry/production environment.
Plant & Equipment Experience
Experience with some of the following would be beneficial:
- Loading shovels
- Counterbalance forklifts
- Tractors
- Mobile screening equipment
- Pelletisation or production plant
- Dispatch and movement of goods
Experience:
- Quarry : 3 years (preferred)
- FLT & loading shovels : 3 years (preferred)
- construction, agriculture, quarrying or manufacturing: 3 years (preferred)
