About the role
We sell industrial and commercial equipment across four websites, Kingfisher Direct, Bin-Shop, Direct Water Tanks and Gritbins, to businesses, councils, schools and distributors across the UK. Tanks, bins, spill control, grit bins, winter safety equipment. Practical products that people buy because they have a problem to solve.
Until now, most of our written content has been produced by external agencies. We are bringing it in-house, and this is the role that does it. You would be our first dedicated content hire, which means real ownership from day one, you will not be inheriting someone else's processes, you will be building them.
The work is a genuine mix. Some days you will be rewriting product pages so a facilities manager can tell two grit bins apart. Other days you will be researching a buying guide, proofreading a brochure before it goes to print, or writing email copy. If you like variety and want your writing to visibly change how a business performs, this is the place to do it.
Key responsibilitiesProduct content (PDPs)
- Write and rewrite product detail pages across our four websites, clear, accurate, scannable copy that helps a buyer choose confidently.
- Differentiate near identical products so each page earns its place, rather than repeating the same paragraph with a capacity swapped out.
- Work from supplier data, spec sheets and conversations with the category teams to get the technical detail right.
Buying guides and informational content
- Research and write buying guides that answer the questions our customers ask before they purchase.
- Produce informational content, how-to articles, comparison pieces, regulatory and compliance explainers, all aligned to our search intent pillars.
- Turn category team expertise into content, interviewing colleagues where you need the knowledge.
Proofreading and quality control
- Proofread and edit content across the business, web copy, marketing material, supplier-supplied text, for accuracy, grammar and consistency.
- Act as guardian of our Tone of Voice Playbook, keeping four websites sounding like one company.
- Maintain and develop a house style guide so standards do not live only in your head.
Marketing material
- Write copy for brochures, product sheets, email campaigns, and social media posts.
- Support the Business Development Manager with sales-facing content for trade, public sector and distributor audiences.
Working with the business
- Take briefs from category teams and turn them into finished, publish ready content.
- Publish through our CMS, with accurate titles, meta descriptions and internal links.
- Brief and review any external agency or freelance support.
Measuring what you produce
- Use our analytics to understand which content performs and why, and feed that back into what you write next.
- Report on content output and performance to the Head of eCommerce.
