Head Waiter / Waitress – Full-Time
Busy Restaurant in Southampton
We are looking for an experienced, confident and enthusiastic Head Waiter / Waitress to join our busy and friendly team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys hospitality, works well under pressure and knows how to lead by example, has attention to the detail, supervise a team and deliver excellent customer service.
Applicants must be aged 21 or over.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Greeting and seating customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Taking orders for food and drinks
- Serving food and ensuring tables receive an efficient service
- Serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
- Managing reservations and organising table allocations
- Opening and closing the restaurant
- Supervising front-of-house team members and ensuring all required work and duties are completed
- Leading and supporting the team throughout service
- Coordinating with the kitchen to ensure smooth and efficient service
- Confidently explaining our menu, drinks and promotions to customers
- Dealing professionally with customer requests, queries and complaints
- Training and supporting new members of staff
- Cleaning and resetting tables with dishes, glasses and flatware as needed
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the restaurant
- Completing opening and closing procedures correctly
- Keeping the team organised and motivated, particularly during busy services
- Ensuring our standards of customer service are maintained at all times
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a Head Waiter, Supervisor or experienced Waiter/Waitress
- Applicants must be 21+
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Confident supervising and motivating a team
- Reliable, punctual and well organised
- Able to take responsibility and make decisions during service
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and busy restaurant
- Positive attitude and strong team player
- Full availability is essential, including evenings and weekends
- Good spoken English
Working Hours
- 30–45 hours per week, depending on business requirements
- Average of approximately 35 hours per week
- 2–3 days off per week
- Full flexibility and availability required, including evenings and weekends
- Shifts will vary according to the restaurant's weekly rota and business requirements
Pay & Benefits
- £12.71–£13.25 per hour, depending on experience
