Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Working Carpentry Supervisor to oversee and actively work on a fire door installation and maintenance project at Arnot House, Gedling Borough Council. This is an 8-week contract, with the potential to extend to 10 weeks, for the right candidate. The successful applicant will hold a minimum NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and a valid SSSTS or SMSTS qualification. You will be responsible for supervising site operations while remaining hands-on, managing subcontractors, coordinating daily activities, maintaining programme targets, and ensuring the highest standards of workmanship. As this is a local authority contract, health and safety compliance is paramount, and you will be expected to lead by example, ensuring all works are completed in accordance with site procedures and current legislation. A strong background in fire door installation and maintenance is essential, along with a thorough understanding of BM TRADA Q-Mark installation and maintenance schemes, fire door compliance, quality assurance, and associated documentation. Responsibilities
- Supervise daily site activities related to fire door installation and maintenance, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and project specifications.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to facilitate smooth workflow and timely project completion.
- Inspect work sites regularly to identify potential hazards or issues, implementing corrective measures promptly.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant building codes, fire safety regulations, and company standards especially BM TRADA Q-Mark Scheme
- Manage the utilisation of hand tools, power tools, scaffolding, and specialised equipment required for installation tasks.
- Oversee the preparation of sites, including surface preparation such as plastering or masonry as needed for proper fitting.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and installation manuals to guide team activities.
- Maintain detailed records of work progress, materials used, and safety inspections for project documentation.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on safe working practices and technical procedures.
Experience
- Proven experience in fire door installation, carpentry, or masonry is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable knowledge of BM TRADA Q-Mark Scheme
- Familiarity with schematics, technical drawings, and installation procedures specific to fire safety systems or doors.
- Previous supervisory or team lead roles within construction projects are preferred.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
