Senior Contract Manager
Location: Verwood, Dorset, with nationwide travel to project sites
Working Pattern: Full-time, predominantly office-based with 2–3 days per week travelling to project sites
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Due to continued expansion, we are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Contract Manager to join our Operations team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially astute construction professional to play a key role in the successful delivery of projects, from tender stage through to completion. You will be responsible for the effective management of contracts, commercial risk and contractual relationships, working closely with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal teams.
The Role
As Senior Contract Manager, you will oversee the negotiation, execution and management of construction contracts, ensuring projects are delivered commercially and contractually in line with agreed requirements.
JCT and Design & Build (D&B) contract experience is paramount, together with strong Quantity Surveying experience.
You will be expected to take a proactive approach to contract administration, commercial management and risk mitigation, providing clear contractual and commercial advice throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage contracts from tender stage through to project completion and final account.
- Draft, review and negotiate construction contracts, with particular emphasis on JCT and Design & Build contracts.
- Monitor contractual performance and ensure compliance with agreed terms and conditions.
- Manage contractual notices, variations, extensions of time, claims and other commercial matters.
- Identify contractual and commercial risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Work closely with project teams, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to resolve contractual and commercial issues.
- Provide commercial and contractual advice to senior management and operational teams.
- Maintain comprehensive records of contracts, notices, correspondence and commercial documentation.
- Support the preparation, negotiation and agreement of final accounts.
- Assist with tender reviews, contract negotiations and pre-construction activities.
- Coordinate with legal advisers or external counsel where required in relation to complex contractual matters or disputes.
- Ensure all contractual documentation is accurate, compliant and aligned with company policies and commercial objectives.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of contract management and commercial processes across the business.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Significant experience in a Senior Contracts Manager / Contracts Manager role within the construction industry.
- Strong JCT contract experience – essential.
- Extensive Design & Build (D&B) experience – essential.
- Quantity Surveying experience – essential.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, commercial management and contract law.
- Proven experience managing contractual risk, variations, claims and commercial negotiations.
- Strong understanding of the full construction project lifecycle, from tender through to completion and final account.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and manage risk.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects and contractual matters simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational, commercial and senior management teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and contract/commercial management systems.
Desirable
- Experience within modular, offsite or specialist construction.
- Relevant professional qualification or membership of a recognised construction/commercial body.
- Experience managing multiple projects across a national portfolio.
- Experience dealing directly with clients, consultants and subcontractors on contractual and commercial matters.

Location & Travel
The role is based in person at our Verwood offices, with nationwide travel to project sites approximately 2–3 days per week.
