Lead Transport Operations in a Safety-Critical Environment
Our client is a well-established organisation operating within a highly regulated, safety-critical industry. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to take full responsibility for transport operations across the Northern Region.
This is a confidential appointment offering the opportunity to lead a multi-site transport function where compliance, operational excellence and strong leadership are paramount. You'll play a key role in ensuring transport operations are delivered safely, legally and efficiently whilst driving continuous improvement and supporting business growth.
The Role
Reporting to the Business Area Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of regional transport activities, ensuring the highest standards of legal compliance, fleet performance and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage transport operations across multiple locations throughout the Northern Region.
- Act as the nominated Transport Manager for the Operator Licence (where applicable).
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings, DVSA regulations and all relevant transport legislation.
- Manage Drivers' Hours, Working Time Regulations, Digital Tachographs and Driver CPC compliance.
- Oversee vehicle maintenance programmes, fleet availability and vehicle replacement planning.
- Monitor fleet utilisation, fuel performance and operational KPIs to maximise efficiency.
- Manage regional transport budgets, supplier expenditure and cost-saving initiatives.
- Lead, coach and develop Transport Supervisors, Team Leaders and Drivers.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
- Lead accident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
About You
You'll be an experienced Transport Manager who thrives in a highly regulated operational environment and enjoys leading teams to deliver exceptional standards of safety, compliance and service.
Essential Requirements
- National CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Haulage.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- ADR Certificate covering the transportation of dangerous goods (including Class 1, 5.1, 8 and 9 where applicable).
- Significant experience managing transport operations within a regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of:

- Vehicle Maintenance Compliance
- Experience managing transport budgets and operational performance.
- Proven leadership experience managing multi-site transport teams.

- Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and Transport Management Systems.
