An exciting opportunity for a Regulatory Technologist to join a successful UK Home Fragrance manufacturer. As a business, we offer personalised candles, from concept to shelf. We are looking for a fragrance obsessed, candle fan who really wants to get into the nitty gritty of a formulation, to join a rapidly growing, high energy business in Romford, Essex.
The regulatory team is focused on safety compliance, CLP & ethical consumer trends. Raw materials are reviewed for cruelty free compliance, vegan suitability, plastic-free and sustainability being company standards for our formulations.

The role will primarily be focused on pack copy approvals for products intended for global markets (UK, EU, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Africa & South America), as well as formulation review, create SDSs to assign CLP requirements & transport classifications.
The role includes providing technical assessment for new formulations as part of product range development, including burn testing, as well as closely working with the sales team to ensure customer’s requirements are met.
Regulatory duties:
- Production of Safety Data Sheets for products and raw materials, and subsequently assign CLP label requirements and transport classifications
- Compile regulatory documents with global labelling requirements needed for artwork creation
- Manage label submissions
- Manage artwork and label libraries
- Manage MSDS’s for raw and finished goods
- Review and approve all product artworks
- Manage large sku-number projects keeping all departments informed of progress
- Monitoring legislation changes
- Creating final product specifications
- Performing routine analysis of products as part of the quality control process
- Production of documentation relevant to product registration
Burn testing duties:
· Managing sampling of all product types, including:
- Overseeing production of laboratory samples of current formulations
- Overseeing production of samples for external analysis
- Recording external reports to the businesses ERP system
· Product development including:
- Meeting the product specifications
- Advising any additional safety instructions that should accompany the product
· Carrying out Burn testing:
- In line with current standards
- Record burn times, weights, final wick selections
- Risk assess products are fit for purpose and will be safe and meet standards
- Soot testing in line with standards
- Documenting test results and reporting these where necessary
- Liaising with external test houses
· Updating and Recording product specifications, additionally they are recorded to Orderwise
· Keeping up to date with standards
- General laboratory housekeeping
EPR Compliance
- Manage and maintain product and environmental compliance across the UK and EU.
- Prepare and submit packaging waste, WEEE, and energy performance reports.
- Oversee Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registrations and submissions.
- Support product compliance and labelling processes, making sure new and existing items meet legal and safety standards.
- Monitor regulatory changes related to product, packaging, and environmental compliance, communicating updates to internal teams.
- Provide insight and guidance for new market launches, including selling regulations, and ensuring products and packaging are compliance-ready before going live.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop and refine compliance procedures, improving consistency and efficiency.
Skills Required: An ideal applicant would have
· a BSc/MSc Science or a Chemistry background
· significant experience in regulatory affairs with fragrance or chemicals (+ 2yrs)
· Knowledge of BS standards 15493:2019 / 15494:2019 an advantage
· Knowledge of Formpak or similar software
· Highly organised and able to work on multiple projects at once
· Reactive
· Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
· Strong attention to detail
· Independent and a self-starter
· Enthusiastic and energetic
· Experience of working in the fragrance industry with candles would be highly advantageous, but not essential, however it’s a given that you will be passionate about all things of fragrance
