RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUAL (RI) – CHILDREN’S RESIDENTIAL CARE
Choose your location. Help choose your Registered Manager. Build an outstanding home.
Therasteps Care is entering an exciting period of growth and we are looking for exceptional Responsible Individuals to join us as we develop a new portfolio of high-quality, smaller children’s homes.
This is not a traditional RI vacancy where you simply step into an established structure.
We want experienced, ambitious people who understand what it takes to create and sustain an outstanding children’s home – and we want you involved from the very beginning.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Our growth strategy is focused on developing smaller, carefully planned 2–3 bed children’s homes, with strong leadership, excellent staff teams and therapeutic, child-centred care at their heart.
Rather than deciding where to open a home and then trying to recruit the right people afterwards, we want to do things differently.
We want to find the right Responsible Individual and Registered Manager first.
As one of our Responsible Individuals, you will have the opportunity to:
Choose an agreed geographical area in which you would like to operate
Be actively involved in selecting the Registered Manager you will work alongside
Help shape the development, ethos and culture of your home from the outset
Influence recruitment and the creation of the wider staff team
Work with us throughout the development and Ofsted registration process
Build a service that you are genuinely proud to represent
Have the opportunity to grow with Therasteps Care as further homes are developed
Discuss enhanced reward arrangements linked to the successful performance and growth of the service
We are currently considering opportunities across:
Kent | East Sussex | West Sussex | Surrey | Berkshire | Oxfordshire | Bedfordshire | Buckinghamshire | Hertfordshire | Essex | Warwickshire | Birmingham | Wolverhampton
For the right individual and management team, we are open to discussing specific towns and areas within these regions.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for credible and experienced leaders who understand the responsibilities that come with being the Responsible Individual for an Ofsted-registered children’s home.
You may already be an RI, an experienced Registered Manager ready to progress, or a senior operational leader with substantial experience within residential childcare.
You will need a strong understanding of:
The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
The Quality Standards
Ofsted inspection and regulatory requirements
Safeguarding and safer recruitment
Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 monitoring and review
Leadership and management within children’s residential services
Quality assurance, auditing and continuous improvement
Risk management and effective safeguarding practice
Building and maintaining a positive safeguarding culture
Supporting Registered Managers to lead confident, stable and effective teams
Most importantly, we want someone who shares our belief that successful homes are built around the right children, the right leadership and the right staff team – not simply the right property.
YOUR ROLE
As Responsible Individual, you will provide effective oversight, challenge and support to the Registered Manager while ensuring the home operates safely, effectively and in accordance with its Statement of Purpose, regulatory requirements and the needs of the children living there.
You will maintain appropriate oversight of safeguarding, incidents, complaints, staffing, recruitment, training, supervision, care planning and service quality, while ensuring that the Registered Manager is appropriately supported and held accountable.
You will also work closely with the senior leadership team as we develop and register the service.
This is a senior role with genuine influence.
We are not looking for someone who simply wants their name attached to a registration. We want an RI who wants to know their home, know their manager, understand the children and be actively involved in creating an excellent service.
WHY THERASTEPS CARE?
We recognise that exceptional Responsible Individuals and Registered Managers are fundamental to the success of a children’s home.
That is why our approach starts with people.
We want to create long-term partnerships with experienced leaders, offering autonomy, senior-level support and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the future growth of Therasteps Care.
For the right people, this could develop beyond responsibility for one home as our organisation continues to grow.
PACKAGE
Competitive senior salary/package – dependent upon experience and scope of responsibility.
We are also open to discussing enhanced performance-related and profit-share arrangements for exceptional candidates who want to build a long-term future with us.
Full details can be discussed confidentially.
WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR VISION
As part of your application, please provide a covering letter alongside your CV.
We would like this to be more than a standard covering letter. We want to understand you, your ambitions and what an exceptional children’s home looks like in your eyes.
Please tell us:
Your vision for developing and overseeing an outstanding children’s home
What you would want and expect from Therasteps Care to enable you to succeed
The type of Registered Manager you would want to work alongside and the leadership relationship you would look to create
Your preferred geographical area and why you believe a successful home could be developed there
What you believe makes a children’s home genuinely successful – for the children, the staff team and the organisation
How you would approach building a strong, stable and high-performing team
What good therapeutic, child-centred care means to you in practice
Your longer-term ambitions and where you would like this opportunity to take you
Any ideas you have about how you would develop, grow and continuously improve the service
If you already have an experienced Registered Manager in mind who you believe would complement your skills and share your vision, please tell us about them too.
We are not looking for a “perfect” answer. We want to hear your ideas, your personality and your vision.
This is an opportunity to help create something from the beginning, so we want to understand not only what you can bring to Therasteps Care, but what you need from us to make that vision a success.
READY TO BUILD SOMETHING EXCEPTIONAL?
If you are an experienced children’s residential professional and have ever thought:
“I know exactly what I would do if I had the opportunity to build a home properly from the beginning.”
We would really like to hear from you.
Please submit your CV together with your covering letter and tell us where you would like to build, who you would like to build it with and what your vision would be.
Join Therasteps Care and help us create smaller, exceptional homes where outstanding leadership creates outstanding care for children.
