HistoCyte is a growing life sciences company based in Newcastle upon Tyne. We develop and manufacture high-quality cell-based control materials used by laboratories around the world to support diagnostic testing and quality assurance.
We're a small, collaborative team, and as we continue to grow we're looking for an additional Production Technician to join our Production team and play an important part in the manufacture and delivery of our products.
The Role
We are looking for a Production Technician to join our small and growing team in Newcastle upon Tyne.
This is a hands-on laboratory role supporting the manufacture, quality control and preparation of our products. You'll work across different stages of the production process, helping to ensure products are manufactured accurately, efficiently and to the high quality standards required within our ISO 13485 Quality Management System.
What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manufacturing, processing and packaging products in line with approved procedures
- Carrying out histology-based production activities, including embedding and microtomy – training will be provided where required
- Performing incoming quality checks on materials and consumables
- Maintaining accurate production and quality records
- Labelling, picking, packaging and preparing completed products for dispatch
- Maintaining accurate information within Sage and other systems
- Supporting production stock control and identifying potential material shortages
- Working closely with colleagues across Production, Cell Culture, Quality and Supply Chain
- Contributing to continuous improvement and maintaining a safe, efficient laboratory environment
The role involves working across a number of stages of the downstream production process, so we're looking for someone who is organised, practical and comfortable taking responsibility for their own work while working closely with others.
What we're looking for
You'll need:
- Experience working in a laboratory or scientific environment
- Experience following documented procedures and maintaining accurate records
- Experience using standard laboratory equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong quality focus
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage changing priorities
- A positive, reliable and collaborative approach
Experience of histology, embedding or microtomy, working within an ISO/GMP/GLP regulated environment, laboratory manufacturing, Sage/ERP systems or product fulfilment would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

Location and right to work
This is a fully on-site laboratory role based in Newcastle upon Tyne and is not suitable for remote or hybrid working. Applicants should therefore already live within a reasonable commuting distance of our Newcastle site.
