Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Marine Engineer to oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine mechanical and electrical systems. The successful candidate will ensure vessel equipment remains compliant with safety regulations and operates at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide waterfront support to the Marine Police Unit in Devonport Dockyard
- Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair marine engines and propulsion systems.
- Monitor and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
- Ensure compliance with maritime safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and technical reports.
- Coordinate repairs and inspections with ship crews, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Manage fuel, lubricants, and spare parts inventories.
- Respond to machinery breakdowns and emergency situations.
Required Qualifications
- Marine Engineering or a related field qualifications.
- To pass DBS Check and attain Dockyard pass
- Marine Engineering Officer Certificate of Competency (where required).
- Knowledge of marine diesel engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery.
- Understanding of maritime regulations and safety standards.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in challenging marine environments where operational requirements of vessels are required
Preferred Skills
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with electrical control systems and automation.
- Leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability practices.
Working Conditions
- Work aboard ships, offshore installations, shipyards, or marine engineering facilities.
- May involve long periods away from home and shift-based work.
- Exposure to machinery spaces, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions
This is a full-time permanent position with 23 days annual leave increasing by 1 day for every 2 years of service up to 25 days. Plus bank holidays
Pay rate £18.73 per hour
