About the Role
We are looking for 2 reliable, motivated, and interested labourers to join our team.
We are a small team of six carrying out (amongst other things) grounds maintenance, path clearance, landscaping, fencing, and tree work for domestic, commercial, agricultural, and local authority clients, including Wiltshire Council.
This is a hands-on role.
1 job is predominantly on our fencing, landscaping and tree works side of the business; the other is for our agricultural fencing, dumper driving, banksman and groundworks side of the business.
Please note that with either job you may be expected to 'muck' in with other areas of the business as and when.
Key Responsibilities
1. Groundworks & Site Preparation:
- Conduct excavation, trenching, and levelling for foundations, pathways, or drainage systems.
2. Fencing Installation & Repairs:
- Erect and repair a variety of fencing types, including post-and-rail, stock fencing, palisade, and bespoke timber/metal designs.
- Use post drivers, saws, and power tools to secure fencing posts and panels.
- Install gates, hinges, and latches, ensuring functionality and durability.
- Undertake agricultural fencing projects (e.g., livestock enclosures, boundary repairs).
- Work with materials such as timber, wire, concrete posts, and metal railings.
3. Landscaping & Softscaping:
- Construct patios, pathways, and decking using paving slabs, block paving, or natural stone.
- Plant trees, shrubs, and hedges; prepare soil beds and install irrigation systems.
- Build raised flower beds, rockeries, and garden features (e.g., ponds, water features).
- Lay turf or sow grass seed, ensuring proper grading and soil preparation.
- Install garden lighting, edging, and decorative elements as per project plans.
4. Machinery & Tool Operation:
- Safely operate machinery such as mini-diggers, trenchers, and dumpers.
- Use power tools (e.g., angle grinders, drills, chainsaws) and hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows).
- Conduct pre-use checks on equipment and report faults to management.
- Transport machinery between sites, ensuring secure loading/unloading.
5. Ground Maintenance:
- Perform routine lawn care: mowing, strimming, edging, and aerating.
- Prune trees and hedges; clear overgrown vegetation using brush cutters or hedge trimmers.
- Remove debris, leaves, and waste from sites; operate wood chippers for green waste.
- Undertake seasonal tasks (e.g., gritting pathways in winter, clearing storm damage).
6. Team Collaboration & Client Interaction:
- Work closely with supervisors and teammates to complete projects efficiently.
- Communicate professionally with clients, addressing queries or concerns on-site if needed
- Follow instructions from senior management while suggesting practical solutions to on-site challenges.
- Install and maintain underground utilities (e.g., drainage pipes, soakaways, and ducting).
- Prepare sites for hardscaping (e.g., laying sub-bases for patios, driveways, or retaining walls).
- Operate compactors, whacker plates, and other machinery to ensure stable ground surfaces.
- Handle materials such as aggregates, concrete, and gravel for site works.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions on site.
- Willingness to be hands-on and work as part of the team.
- Have some knowledge of vehicles and machines to do basic inspections
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Experience operating plant and machinery such as excavators, dumpers, loaders and flails
- Chainsaw qualifications.
- PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.
- First Aid qualification.
- Some knowledge of building work and timber (e.g. building sleeper walls, decking, platforms)
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, fencing, tree work, or a similar outdoor environment.
- Ability and confidence to tow trailers safely and legally.

Pay: £27,300.00-£32,000.00 per year
