Yard Manager Job description
The Yard Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient use of the forklift as well as the health and safety and management of the yard area and its stock. You are responsible for the timely and accurate management of all incoming and outgoing deliveries.
The hourly rate is between £15.35 and £17.95 (dependant on experience) with any hours worked over 37.5 paid at time and a half.
The primary duties and responsibilities include:
Forklift Duties
- Operating and maneuvering forklift safely.
- Safely stacking and un-stacking goods onto shelves or pallets and moving goods from storage areas to loading areas for transport.
- Loading and unloading delivery vehicles accurately, in accordance with dispatch/delivery notes.
- Safely relocating goods to their designated storage areas.
- Daily checking of forklift equipment for faults or damages.
Yard Management Duties
- Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and well organised yard space.
- Receiving and checking incoming deliveries with the upmost accuracy.
- Packing according to picking orders ready for dispatch with the upmost accuracy including manufacturing the required parts.
- Ensure all shipments are packed correctly, checking off the delivery list as you are packing.
- Ensuring that the yard and all forklift driving areas are free from spills or obstructions in line with the company health and safety policy.
- Have a flexible approach and assist management requests to work outside of your regular working hours as and when this may be required.
- Carry out regular inventory checks.
- Drive a 7.5 tonne lorry or company van when required.
- You will be required to tow a trailer when the needs of the business require.
General Duties
- Provide support to other departments within the company as and when required. From time to time, you will be required to assist other areas of the business, this could be another department within the factory, operating machinery or driving to another location.
- You will be expected to undergo training from time to time, and this may have to be at the weekends or outside of your working hours.
- You must be fully aware of all company health and safety policies and procedures and will always operate within these.
