Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated Apprentice Polisher to join our production team. In this role, you will learn the craftsmanship of surface finishing while earning a wage.
You will work alongside our experienced polisher to master the preparation, buffing, and mirror finishing of aluminium components.
We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and a desire to learn a skilled trade. Some prior experience in commercial polishing is an advantage but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn surface preparation: Clean, sand, and mask materials to prepare them for finishing.
- Operate machinery safely: Gain hands-on experience using hand tools, mops, and motorised polishing equipment.
- Apply finishing compounds: Master the selection and application of various polishing compounds
- Conduct quality inspections: Inspect completed items for defects, scratches, or uneven surfaces.
- Maintain the workshop: Clean machinery, store tools properly, and ensure a tidy workspace.
- Follow safety protocols: Adhere strictly to Health & Safety regulations, including the use of PPE and COSHH guidelines.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: GCSE English and Maths (Grades 9–4 / A*–C) or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
- Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for working on fine or complex surfaces.
- Stamina: Ability to handle a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods.
- Attitude: A reliable, punctual team player with an eager willingness to accept feedback and learn.
- Details: Strong focus on quality control and a sharp eye for minor imperfections.
Working Conditions and Benefits
- Hours: Full-time 38 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 7am to 5pm with breaks
- Salary: At or above the UK National Minimum Wage for Apprentices
- Perks: Paid holiday allowance, uniform/PPE provided, and pension contributions when completing 3-months probation of the 6-months probation required.
- Progression: Potential for a permanent position as a fully qualified Polisher upon successful completion.
Pay: £12.75-£13.50 per hour
