Roots Rise Residential Home is a 24-hour residential home committed to providing a safe, nurturing, supportive and positive environment for young people.

We are looking for caring, reliable and committed individuals to join our team as Support Workers. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people and who wants to develop their skills and experience within residential childcare.
The Role
As a Support Worker, you will be an important member of the residential team, providing day-to-day care, supervision, encouragement and emotional support to young people living at Roots Rise.
You will be involved in all aspects of residential life and will help ensure that young people experience a safe, stable and positive environment.
The role involves supporting young people with their daily routines, education, personal care, activities, appointments and social development.
You will also be expected to build appropriate and professional relationships with young people, encourage positive choices and help them develop the skills they need to become more independent.
Key Responsibilities
As a Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality, person-centred care and support to young people.
- Promoting the safety, welfare, dignity and wellbeing of every young person.
- Supporting young people with personal care where required, while maintaining dignity, privacy and professional boundaries.
- Supporting morning, evening and bedtime routines.
- Assisting young people in preparing for and attending school.
- Completing school pick-ups and drop-offs as required.
- Transporting and accompanying young people to appointments, activities and other agreed destinations.
- Taking young people off-site to participate in outdoor, recreational, educational and community activities.
- Encouraging young people to participate in positive hobbies and activities.
- Supporting young people to develop independence and practical life skills.
- Encouraging positive communication, relationships and social development.
- Following individual care plans, risk assessments and agreed support strategies.
- Monitoring and reporting changes in a young person's physical, emotional or behavioural wellbeing.
- Responding appropriately to challenging or unexpected situations.
- Maintaining accurate daily records, handovers and incident reports.
- Maintaining confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Following safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Supporting the administration of medication in accordance with training, policies and procedures, where required.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, managers, families and relevant professionals.
- Attending staff meetings, supervision and mandatory training.
- Completing any other reasonable duties required by the Registered Manager or Senior Support Worker.
Working Hours & Contract
This position is offered on a zero-hour contract.
Although the position is a zero-hour contract, there will be an ongoing demand for working hours as Roots Rise Residential Home operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, throughout the year.
Our staff team operates on a rotating shift basis to ensure the home is appropriately staffed throughout the day and night.
Available shifts may include:
- Day shifts
- Evening shifts
- Night/waking-night shifts
- Weekend shifts
- Bank holiday shifts
We are therefore looking for applicants who can demonstrate flexibility and reliability and who are comfortable working across different shift patterns according to the needs of the home.
Training & Induction
We recognise that starting work within a residential children's home can be a new and unfamiliar experience. Our induction process is therefore designed to ensure that new staff feel supported, comfortable and confident in their role.
Mandatory Level 2 Safeguarding Training
Following a successful interview and completion of the relevant pre-employment requirements, successful candidates will be required to complete mandatory Level 2 Safeguarding training before commencing work within the home.
This training will help staff understand their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, child protection, recognising concerns and responding appropriately.
Level 2 First Aid
Staff are expected to hold, or be willing to obtain, mandatory Level 2 First Aid training as required for the role.
First Aid training is an important part of working within a 24-hour residential environment and supports staff in responding appropriately to accidents, injuries and emergencies.
Three-Day In-Person Shadow Training
Before working independently, successful candidates will complete a three-day in-person shadow training period within the home.
This will allow new staff to learn directly from experienced members of the team and become familiar with how Roots Rise operates.
The shadowing period will provide an opportunity to:
- Become familiar with the home and its daily routines.
- Observe how staff support the young people.
- Understand the expectations of the Support Worker role.
- Learn how different shifts operate.
- Become familiar with relevant policies and procedures.
- Understand individual care plans and support strategies.
- Learn recording, reporting and handover procedures.
- Observe appropriate approaches to personal care and communication.
- Learn how school runs, appointments and off-site activities are managed.
- Ask questions and receive guidance from experienced staff.
- Develop confidence before undertaking duties independently.
Our aim is to make the transition into the role as smooth and comfortable as possible while ensuring new staff have a clear understanding of their responsibilities and the standards expected at Roots Rise.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have a genuine interest in working with and supporting young people.
- Be willing to complete mandatory Level 2 Safeguarding training before commencing work.
- Hold or be willing to obtain mandatory Level 2 First Aid training.
- Be willing to complete the three-day in-person shadow training.
- Be flexible to work day and/or night shifts according to the needs of the home.
- Be willing to undertake school pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Be willing to accompany young people on off-site activities.
- Be willing to support young people with personal care.
- Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- Previous experience working with children or young people.
- Experience within residential childcare.
- Experience within social care, education, supported accommodation or a similar setting.
- A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People's Services, Health and Social Care or a related field.
- Previous safeguarding or child protection training.
- Experience supporting young people with complex or challenging needs.
- Previous experience working within a 24-hour residential environment.
- A current Level 2 First Aid qualification.
