ROLE DESCRIPTION

At United Vanning we are all about producing the best results in partnership with the client. As a consultant you will build your experience of our software development and project approach and of our clients’ systems. You will very quickly gain the opportunity to be in touch with the client directly, and see your deliverables make a direct contribution to their business. The role will entail a variety of tasks including:

Creating solution proposals that will evolve or transform our clients’ IT landscapes and deliver true business value.
Scoping and selling those solutions in parallel with delivering ongoing projects
Planning from initial concept through to creating work breakdown structures as well as detailed delivery and deployment project plans
Demonstrating solutions and proofs of concept with confidence to the client
Close professional collaboration with clients to ensure that we thoroughly understand what’s best for their business needs and what will achieve the most effective outcomes
Validating and enforcing that design and architectural patterns are being followed
Taking responsibility and gaining experience across the Software Development Lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to integration, acceptance and live system support
Ensuring quality including writing and executing test cases. (Not that this is a significant proportion of the role but all our project managers participate in testing to know the application in detail)
Orchestrating the writing of infrastructure and release documentation

ESSENTIAL SKILLS or EXPERIENCE

To be considered for this position you will have:

An intense interest in building and delivering solutions
An excellent proven track record in project management both waterfall and agile
A 1st or 2:1 Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent Science disciplines
Fluent written and spoken English
Very good technical and architectural understanding
An excellent understanding of release management processes, documents and policies
A detailed understanding of version control, branching and configuration management
A good understanding of infrastructure, firewalls, DMZ, ports, communication patterns,

You will be:

An excellent customer partner. Building the understanding of the customer organisation and engaging with key stakeholders
Confident in status reporting and escalations with good diplomatic skills
An analytical problem solver who is comfortable tackling uncertainty
Vigilant over your budget ensuring that follow-up processes and procedures are implemented in the wider team
Self-motivated, with an enthusiasm to deliver your best and the organisation to plan your tasks effectively
A clear communicator, both verbally and in written form, adept at sharing information
Someone that works well in a team and individually
Willing to travel on occasion, generally within Europe or the US
Passionate about self-improvement and learning about technology across a variety of different business domains

DESIRABLE SKILLS or EXPERIENCE

Open source project delivery
Java, C/C++, Python programming experience
Blockchain technology, Crypto protocols
Software development and testing within a commercial environment

Knowledge of these technology areas would be a bonus:

Big Data e.g. Hadoop;
Messaging architectures e.g. JMS;
Web applications e.g. JBoss, Javascript, Springboot, Angular;
Database storage e.g. Postgres, Oracle, SQL, JPA, Hibernate
