The main purpose of the role is to apply technical and project engineering knowledge, business promotion & establishment, quality and safety leadership, and continuous development in support of Company operations and project activities.
Main responsibilities
Engineering:
Major responsibility is to provide, with assistance from experienced engineers, an engineering function, encompassing, but not limited to, the following:
· Provide technical input in support of engineering projects.
· Preparation of proposals and tenders.
· Administration of assigned project files.
· Liaison with clients and subcontractors.
· Preparation of calculations and work procedures.
· Completion of purchase requisitions.
· Arrange equipment dispatch and transportation.
· Compilation of job close-out reports.
· Preparation of engineering invoice drafts and financial control of assigned projects.
· Carry out site / offshore visits when requested and prepare detailed activity reports.
The incumbent must adopt a co-operative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to that which they are primarily employed.
Business Promotion & Establishment:
· To carry out an Engineer function within the Engineering & Operations Department providing a support function to the establishment in all aspect of cranes, lifting and support service activities.
· Contribute to the establishment sales effort, through client contact and meeting the client’s needs.
· In conjunction with the Engineering Team Leader and Business / Account Manager identify areas for business development and improvement.
· Attend client premises as and when required, to engage daily operations and planning activities with the clients.
· When undertaking visits to site or offshore installations, promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.
Personnel Development
· It is expected that the incumbent will attend, and actively participate in, all training provided by company, whether internally or externally provided.
· Carry out continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance competence in own area of responsibility.
Meetings and Reporting
· Actively contribute to meetings and discussions.
· Report on financial and operation progress of assigned projects to line management.
Liaison
· Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with customers, sub-contractors, management, team members and other colleagues.
· Work co-operatively and productively with others to ensure planning, technical integrity and successful completion of projects.
HSEQ responsibilities
· It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
· The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
· HND, BSc or BEng (Hons) within a relevant discipline, or time served with hands on experience, within a relevant trade.
· Excellent communication skills to enable effective liaison with clients, vendors and other members of staff.
· Effective in dealing with commercial and management aspects of the role
· Careful and meticulous professional and a motivated self-starter
· Good technical writing skills, and proficient use of MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel etc)
Desirable
· To have attained or working towards a professional accreditation with an appropriate institute
· Previous experience with cranes and lifting equipment.
· Previous experience in heavy plant and/or maintenance environment
· Experience within a engineering environment
