The Hereford operation is the major UK production facility in the PCC Metals & Forging and we now have a new and exciting opportunity for an Quality and Technical Director to join the SMW team.
Role Summary:
This role has total accountability for monitoring company production processes to ensure maintenance of planned yield, rejection and Right First Time (RFT) performance. Reviews production processes and proposes actions to improve yield, rejection and RFT performance, as well as other important metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to meet agreed improvement targets. Liaises with Sales, Production and Planning personnel to develop processes and product capability to meet one, three and five year plan.
Essential Functions of the Role:
- Ensures that all employees perform their job in a safe manner, are properly trained and communicated with effectively at all times.
- Maintains weekly monitors of key production processes to identify yield, rejection and RFT performance and trends, as well as other KPI’s. Investigates all significant adverse trends and implements corrective actions, as necessary.
- Produces action plans for key processes to provide continuing improvements to yield, rejections and RFT, and other important KPI’s, for implementation and assists with implementation and monitors and reports on outcome. Develops and executes specific identified improvement plans for specific products.
- Reviews and gives input to all Sales and Production, one, three and five year plans and recommends necessary changes to production processes to meet same. Compiles and maintains a corresponding one, three and five year plan for the Q&T function within the company.
- Develops Company processes and new products to meet objectives identified in above. Liaises as necessary with Research and Development, IncoTest personnel and other departments. Maintains up to date methods of manufacturing and other operating procedures to ensure Company products are manufactured consistently and efficiently to the required quality standard.
- Represents the Company as necessary on all technology matters and advises management as appropriate.
- Responds to all customer concerns and maintains a system to ensure an adequate response.
- Maintains all company quality systems, procedures and certifications, and ensures that appropriate accreditations are obtained to enable the sale of Company products. Acts as the company’s Quality Management Representative.
- Ensure that Company products are tested to the correct standards and that all necessary resources are available for this purpose.
- Liaises with other units within the overall corporation to optimise utilisation of Corporate resources and establish the most cost effective process routes for Company products. Co-operates with management and technical staff at these locations to develop process routes.
- Develops enhancement to the Company Quality System and manual in compliance with the continuous improvement requirements of AS9100 and other standards.
- Is the ‘owner’ for the company’s NPDI process and ensures that all requirements of this process are adhered to at all times.
- Is the owner for the company’s Zero Defects Program and ensures this process is fully embedded and utilised on a daily basis within the company, including coordination of training, appointment of key personnel, identifying projects, etc.
Education/ Qualifications/ Experience:
- Degree – Metallurgy / Materials Science.
- Ideally Masters or PhD.
- Metallurgy Background.
