We are looking for a hardworking, motivated and values-driven Gardens & Facilities Operative to help maintain and enhance our beautiful grounds and facilities. This is a physically demanding role that requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and someone who takes genuine pride in maintaining exceptionally high standards.

About the Role
This role is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and continuous improvement of our gardens, grounds and external facilities. You will work both independently and alongside colleagues to ensure every area reflects the high standards expected of Dignity.
No two days are the same. One day you may be planting new shrubs and maintaining flower beds, the next you may be carrying out minor repairs, maintaining equipment, preparing for seasonal projects or supporting the wider team with grounds-related activities.
What You'll Be Doing
- Maintaining gardens, lawns, flower beds, shrubs and woodland areas
- Planting, pruning, watering and caring for a wide variety of plants
- Identifying and managing weeds, pests and plant health issues
- Mowing, edging and maintaining lawns to a high standard
- Clearing litter, debris and fallen branches from the grounds
- Operating and maintaining gardening machinery and equipment safely
- Carrying out basic DIY and facilities maintenance tasks
- Undertaking minor repairs to fences, pathways, sheds and garden structures
- Supporting with internment preparation in gardens and woodland areas
- Replacing damaged markers and maintaining memorial areas
- Assisting with seasonal projects and improvements across the site
- Gritting pathways and maintaining safe access during winter months
- Actively contributing ideas that improve the appearance, efficiency and functionality of our grounds and facilities
What We Are Looking For
Essential
- Previous gardening, grounds maintenance or landscaping experience
- Good knowledge of plants, weeds, lawn care and garden maintenance
- Basic DIY and maintenance skills
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
- Ability to work independently and use your own initiative
- Physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual work throughout the day
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in
- Reliable, organised and self-motivated
- Flexible to work additional hours when business needs require
Desirable
- Experience operating a range of gardening and grounds maintenance equipment
- Knowledge of landscaping and garden design
- Experience maintaining outdoor facilities or estate grounds
- Basic understanding of pest control and plant health management
