Centre for Engineering Education (CEE)
The UCL Centre for Engineering Education (CEE) is a joint centre between the UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences and the UCL Institute of Education. It aims to provide research and curriculum development to deliver improved engineering education worldwide. It is actively engaged in the engineering education research community and in using that evidence-based research to deliver innovative and high-quality student experiences at UCL and for external partners through collaborative consultancy projects.
UCL Engineering’s Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP)
Our Integrated Engineering Programme is recognised within and outside of UCL for innovation and thought leadership in engineering education. The award-winning Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP) at UCL is a radical model for reimagining undergraduate engineering education. It integrates rigorous disciplinary foundations with applied mathematics, authentic and enquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary project-based learning, and a strong emphasis on professional and transferable skills.
The programme adopts skills-based learning approaches that prepare students to address complex global challenges through real-world scenarios involving industry, community, and policy stakeholders. Nationally and internationally, the IEP is celebrated for its innovative curriculum design, commitment to inclusion and sustainability, and its transformative impact on student learning and graduate readiness.
This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover position, commencing on 16 November 2026.
The Centre seeks to employ a teaching focused lecturer ideally with both engineering and higher education teaching experience of undergraduate level mathematics.
The post holder will work with staff across 6 departments within UCL Engineering to develop and teach cross-faculty elements of the year 2 (level 5) IEP Mathematics curriculum. In the main, the post holder will provide maths curricula leadership and teaching support at faculty level to staff and students in departments.
Additionally, they will join the faculty IEP Team in their development of teaching resources to support the advancement of the IEP Mathematics curriculum, for example, online teaching videos, problem-based learning inspired coursework, Matlab tutorials and assessments, module exams, and online Moodle/STACK quizzes.
They will also be tasked with identifying, developing and implementing a range of teaching and learning initiatives, for example continuing to support and incorporate blended and flipped learning into the engineering mathematics curriculum and developing robust assessment and feedback methods for large-scale classes.
The year 2 mathematics module that this post will be responsible for includes leading a team of approximately 20-30 academic staff and PGTAs to teaching and support the assessment associated with the module. This module is taught to over 800 students and thus requires a team effort, including the central support of the IEP Education Administration and Student Experience team.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
- Educated to Degree level in an engineering science discipline or mathematics, or hold equivalent qualifications and / or experience.
- Experience of curriculum, programme and/or module development
- Experience of using innovative Teaching Methods, including incorporating new technologies into the design and delivery of curricula.
- Experience of teaching undergraduates (working in higher education)
- High level knowledge of engineering software e.g. MATLAB
- Excellent people skills and the ability to build good relationships with colleagues and external partners.
