Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and reliable HGV Class 2 Driver to join our transport team, carrying out deliveries across national routes.
The Role
As a Class 2 HGV Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation and delivery of timber to customers and sites across the UK.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced drivers with a strong focus on safety, punctuality, and customer service.
You will be representing Firwood Timber & Plywood on the road and at customer delivery locations, so a professional attitude, excellent driving standards and good customer service skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate HGV Class 2 flatbed vehicles on national delivery routes.
- Deliver building materials safely, efficiently and within scheduled delivery times.
- Load, unload and secure materials correctly and in accordance with company procedures and relevant safety regulations.
- Ensure loads are properly secured before and during transportation.
- Carry out daily pre-use vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance issues promptly.
- Complete all required delivery documentation, delivery notes, vehicle records and other relevant paperwork accurately.
- Communicate professionally with customers, colleagues and the transport team regarding deliveries and any potential delays or issues.
- Provide a high standard of customer service at all delivery locations.
- Follow all relevant road safety legislation, transport regulations, health and safety requirements and company policies.
- Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the vehicle.
- Represent Firwood Timber & Plywood in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Valid HGV Class 2 / Category C driving licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
- Previous experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles commercially.
- Experience carrying out deliveries using flatbed vehicles is desirable.
- Good understanding of load security and safe transportation of goods.
- Good knowledge of road safety and drivers' hours regulations.
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules effectively.
- Flexibility to work early starts and occasional overnight stays when required.
Desirable
- Experience delivering materials within the construction, timber or builders' merchant industry.
- Knowledge of timber products.
- Previous experience carrying out national deliveries.
