We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Chemist to join our expanding hazardous waste business based at our friendly, fast-paced transfer station in Cannock.

Unlike many specialist roles, this position offers a varied workload across reception chemistry, technical assessment, customer support and site-based activities, giving you excellent exposure to all aspects of hazardous waste management.
Whether you are already working as a Reception Chemist, Site Chemist, Mobile Chemist or Technical Assessor, this role offers the opportunity to build on your existing skills while working within a supportive and collaborative team.
The Role
Working closely with our Operations, Customer Services and Technical teams, you will play an important role in ensuring hazardous waste is handled safely, compliantly and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspect and assess incoming hazardous waste to ensure it meets site acceptance criteria and complies with Chemical Waste Appropriate Measures (CWAM).
- Identify, label and segregate waste correctly in accordance with CWAM, HSG 71, HSG 51 and other relevant guidance.
- Assess waste streams and identify safe, compliant, and commercially viable treatment and disposal routes.
- Complete technical assessments and prepare documentation for incoming and outgoing waste consignments.
- Support the Operations Manager with day-to-day technical decisions relating to waste acceptance and disposal.
- Work alongside the Customer Services team to provide practical technical solutions for customers' waste management requirements.
- Provide technical support for quotations, pre-acceptance assessments, and compliance checks.
- Visit customer sites to identify, sample, segregate, and package hazardous waste ready for collection.
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues, customers, and waste disposal partners.
- Help maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance across the site.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive and enjoys working as part of a team while also being confident working independently.
You should have:
- A minimum HNC in Chemistry (or equivalent qualification).
- At least one year's experience within the hazardous waste industry (preferred).
- Experience in a Reception Chemist, Site Chemist, Mobile Chemist or Technical Assessor role would be advantageous.
- A good understanding of hazardous waste legislation and industry guidance.
- A personable, hardworking, flexible and collaborative attitude.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A practical, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
