Job Title: Senior Software Developer - Technology - Band M - Counter Terrorism Policing HQ
Salary: The starting salary is £63,409, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £60,400 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £65,886. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Job Summary
As a Senior Software Developer, you will play a pivotal role in developing existing systems and shaping the future of Counter Terrorism Police systems.
To lead on designing and creating bespoke software following agile delivery processes as part of a DevSecOps team.
This role requires a flexible working approach and be self-motivated to help ensure that the various environments are well architected and documented.
This role is aligned to the Senior Developer role set out within the Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework (DDAT).
You’ll join a new team of Software engineers, working flexibly from home and with an office space in our air-conditioned operations centre located east of Birmingham, with easy access from the M6 and M42. A London office location is also available. This is a great opportunity to assist in building a world class development function.

Key Tasks
The post holder will be required to do the following:
Be responsible for writing clean, secure code following a test-driven approach
Create code that is open by default and easy for others to reuse
To build future proof reusable code libraries, which can be shared, in-order to drive further efficiencies throughout the team.
Work with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built - including product managers, designers, and QA engineers, to understand project requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure successful project delivery
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for process optimization, automation, and productivity enhancement
Have an understanding of the whole system and take responsibility for teaching this to others
Understanding and experience of security checks and gates within a CI/CD process
Lead and mentor other software developers, providing guidance, support, and technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle
Agile mind set and ability to thrive in collaborative teams.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent git and issue tracking skills
Commitment to code quality and best practices, including writing automated tests and conducting code reviews.
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and a Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Essential For The Role
Essentials Experience
Experience of software application development and coding skills, preferably in an Agile DevSecOps environment.
Competence in at least one modern programming language - we use .net / Angular / Typescript but we don’t require you to be proficient in our stack
A working knowledge of containers - Docker / Kubernetes / Helm etc
Database skills in a modern RDBMS such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL etc
Communicates effectively, using plain language and simplifying technical information appropriately to the audience. Excellent written communication skills with particular emphasis on strong scientific report-writing skills and documenting code.
Desirables
Experience and knowledge of the Government Security Classifications levels and an understanding of the Cabinet Office Security Policy Framework
Knowledge of one or more of the below:
Experience of Unit Testing and automated testing tools as part of a continuous integration pipeline
A keen desire to cross-train into DevSecOps infrastructure skills
