Trainee / Experienced Cargo Surveyor – Plymouth Area

We’re looking to recruit either a Trainee or an Experienced Cargo Surveyor based in Plymouth or the surrounding area.
This is a hands-on role involving the inspection and sampling of petroleum products at refineries and terminals. The successful candidate must live within reasonable travelling distance of Plymouth due to the nature of the work and occasional short-notice call-outs.
The role will also require travel to other locations across the UK and periods of working away from home. Applicants must be prepared to travel when required. All approved travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses will be paid by the company.
Trainee Surveyors
No previous experience is required. Full training will be provided, normally taking between three and six months.
Experienced Surveyors
You’ll be able to apply your existing skills and experience immediately.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect and sample petroleum products
- Handle sampling equipment weighing approximately 20–25 kg
- Accurately record and report findings using Excel, email and company software
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Follow strict site and company safety procedures
- Occasionally work at height
- Travel and work away from home when required
Requirements
- Based in Plymouth or the surrounding area
- Full UK driving licence
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
- Computer literate, including Excel and email
- Flexible with working hours
- Able to work independently and remotely
- Prepared to travel and work away from home
- Eligible to live and work in the UK
Desirable
- CCNSG Safety Passport
- Previous experience working at refineries, terminals or other industrial sites

Important
This isn’t a standard 9-to-5 role. The most challenging parts of the job are the unsociable hours, weekend shifts, travel and occasional short-notice call-outs.
The role is subject to a strict drug and alcohol policy.
