KITCHEN ASSISTANT (Flexible / Casual Role)

Pay: £12.71 per hour + statutory holiday pay (£14.24 per hour including holiday pay)
Start date: End of September / October 2026
Typical working days: Wednesday - Saturday, with occasional Sunday availability
Typical hours: 9am - 3pm, with occasional evening availability
About the role
We’re looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our small, growing team at TAKEBON.
This is a flexible, casual role supporting both our café and catering work. You’ll be involved in a variety of kitchen tasks, from food preparation and baking to helping with catering orders.
You don’t need years of professional kitchen experience. We’re much more interested in finding someone who is reliable, willing to learn and happy to get stuck in.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing food for the café and catering orders
- Cooking, baking and bread-making
- Helping with catering orders, including portioning, boxing and loading
- Supporting front-of-house and café service when needed
- Washing up, cleaning and keeping the kitchen organised
- Following food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures
- Helping with general kitchen tasks as required
Who we're looking for
You don't need years of professional kitchen experience. We're more interested in someone who is:
- Reliable and punctual
- Hard-working and happy to get stuck in
- Comfortable working in a kitchen environment
- Curious and keen to learn
- Able to work independently once shown what to do
- Calm, organised and good at working as part of a small team
- Interested in food and ideally curious about Japanese food and cooking
- Previous kitchen, café or catering experience is helpful but not essential.
This is a great opportunity to learn a broad range of food preparation and catering skills within a small, growing business. As the business grows, there may also be opportunities to take on more responsibility and develop your role within the team.
