Overview
The Bakery Packer is responsible for packing bread, cakes and other baked goods accurately, safely and efficiently in a commercial bakery environment. This role helps ensure products are presented well, labelled correctly, protected from damage and prepared on time for dispatch or delivery.
Duties
- Pack bread, cakes and other bakery products according to company standards and customer requirements.
- Label products correctly with product names, dates, batch information and any required allergen or storage information.
- Carry out visual checks to ensure items are the correct size, appearance and quantity before packing.
- Handle products carefully to avoid damage and maintain presentation quality.
- Prepare orders for storage, collection, dispatch or delivery within agreed timescales.
- Keep packing areas, equipment and materials clean, organised and fully stocked.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, allergen control and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Report damaged products, packing issues, stock shortages or quality concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Work as part of the production team to meet daily output targets and support smooth workflow across departments.
- Assist with basic cleaning, end-of-shift checks and waste reduction procedures.
Skills
- Good attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to work quickly and consistently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Understanding of food hygiene and safe handling practices; food safety training is required and will be provided if necessary.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy for reading labels, order sheets and recording information.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods, lift trays or boxes and carry out repetitive tasks.
- Previous experience in a bakery, food production or packing role is desirable but not essential.
This role is based in a commercial bakery and may involve early morning starts depending on production schedules. The environment can be warm, busy and physically demanding, with regular standing, bending, lifting and repetitive hand movements.
