Job Title: SEMH support worker, outdoor pursuits
Contract: Full time, permanent
Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 (experience and qualification based)
Holiday entitlement: 28 days (3 further gifted days at Christmas)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Established in March 2012, Endless Adventure North East is a leading activity provider based in the heart of the North East. We have a 5 Star reputation in delivering bespoke adventures to a number of different clients.
Due to increased demand, we are looking to appoint a highly motivated, professional and skilled individual to join our team.
Utilising our wonderful wild spaces, Endless Adventure provides bespoke alternative provision to young people aged 5+. Offering 2:1 and small cohort provision for young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Endless Adventure is an approved provider of alternative provision for a number of local authorities.
About the role:
As an SEMH support worker, you will work closely with a team of highly enthusiastic professionals who provide vital support for students with SEMH needs. You will create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated to engage with their provision. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require additional emotional and mental health support.
This role requires a flexible working pattern, early starts are not uncommon, as is a late finish.
We are particularly seeking an individual with extensive experience working with young people with special education needs in an outdoor setting. You must be confident at height, enjoy water-based activities, and have a passion for the outdoors. Don’t worry, this role will be supported by a fully qualified activity instructor. Our instructors are not only adventure professionals but also equally experienced in working with young people with additional needs.
Job Purpose, key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- To support the delivery of safe, fun and adventurous activities to the highest possible standard to customers of all ages and backgrounds.
- To support in the administration of the company including but not limited to; the booking process, scheduling staff, equipment and vehicles.
- To be involved in the growth, delivery and administration of alternative provision and SEND activities.
- To contribute to the development of Endless Adventure North East and assist in the other areas of the business as required.
- To undertake the administration necessary to ensure the smooth running of programmes or activities, services and facilities.
- To communicate confidently and competently with customers, local authorities, and other professionals that we work with.
- To undertake on-going health and safety risk assessments and equipment/facilities/venue monitoring records relevant to our activities and inform management if hazards are identified.
- To undertake domestic & supervisory duties ensuring the safety and security of facilities.
- Confident communicator (both written and verbal) with a personable and professional manner.
- The ability to interact and relate to all levels of employees and build strong working relationships.
- The ability to manage own personal and professional development.
- Attend industry-related events and training to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
- Maintain and cultivate excellent working relationships with key related partners and clients to high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Support the Managing Director with securing new business opportunities.
- Proven understanding of health and safety in the workplace.

The successful candidate will be committed to supporting the business in their delivery of a range of activities to some of the most vulnerable young people.

You will have a creative mindset that is flexible and adaptable to meet the ever-changing demands that we face on a day-to-day basis.
An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants. Safer recruitment and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. This will include online searches as part of our recruitment due diligence for all shortlisted candidates, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 25/26.
Essential:
- A clean driving license with no claims in the last 5 years.
- A relevant learner support, youth or educational qualification (or be working towards).
- Experience of working in a youth or education setting
- Experience of supporting vulnerable young people with SEND needs.
- Good interpersonal skills and emotional resilience in working with children.
- Up to date knowledge of Local Authority and National expectations for SEND. An understanding of the SEND Code of Practice including knowledge of EHCP and their implementation.
- Good awareness of and clear ability to safeguard children by developing appropriate relationships, personal boundaries and maintaining discipline.
- Ability to work flexibly and confidently with children with a wide range of social, emotional, and mental health needs as well as those with SEND across all 4 areas as defined with SEND Code of Practice 2014.
- Will demonstrate a passion for learning and inclusion
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to engage and motivate children and families with complex needs
- Be solution focussed and emotionally resilient in highly emotive and unpredictable situations
- Be committed to the nurturing ethos at Endless Adventure in order to grow confident, skilled, happy and adventurous learners both in formal and informal education settings.
- Knowledge of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) including contributing at annual review.
- Competent with the use of ITC
Desirable:
- QTS status
- Team Teach or other relevant training
- Outdoor activity qualifications. I.e. RCI, ML, MTBL, IRF Level 3
- First Aid
- Safeguarding Training
