Stablemates is an Alternative Provision looking for an enthusiastic, creative and experienced Cooking Teacher to deliver engaging cookery lessons for children aged 9–18 years with a range of additional needs, including SEND, SEMH, ASD and ADHD.

Responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships with students by providing consistent support, encouragement, and guidance.
- Facilitate engaging activities that promote learning, teamwork, and self-confidence among students.
- Promote a safe, inclusive environment where every young person feels valued and heard.
- Use initiative to plan and deliver fun, practical cooking lessons suitable for children aged 9-18
- Teach basic food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen safety.
- Promote healthy eating and nutrition through engaging activities.
- Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and health and safety.
- Manage ingredients, equipment and kitchen resources efficiently.
- Challenge and/or encourage a young person depending on what the situation requires.
- Provide feedback that is open, honest and positive.
- Monitor progress through regular check-ins, documenting achievements and areas for improvement.
- Take a genuine interest in helping the young person succeed
Experience
- Experience teaching cooking to children in a school, alternative provision or community setting.
- A recognised catering, cookery or food education qualification.
- A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain before starting).
- Experience supporting children with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children or adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
- Enthusiasm for empowering young people through education and mentorship initiatives.
- Understanding of special education needs and strategies for supporting youth with different learning styles.Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proven skills in communication, active listening, and conflict resolution.
- A caring, patient and positive approach.
- An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
