Autumna is at a critical stage of commercial growth. The Finance Manager keeps the financial engine of the business running accurately and reliably, and is a trusted, visible role at the heart of the company.
Job Overview
The Finance Manager oversees the day-to-day finance operations of the business, including invoicing, credit control, purchase ledger, VAT, and accurate financial records. This is a hands-on operational finance role. You'll make sure money in and money out runs smoothly, records are clean and current, and the CEO and external accountants always have reliable numbers to work from.
The role suits an organised, dependable finance professional who takes pride in accuracy, works well independently, and enjoys owning a process end-to-end.
Invoicing and Credit Control
- Oversee timely and accurate invoicing across all revenue streams, aligned with sales outputs and licensing schedules
- Manage aged debtor reporting and actively pursue overdue accounts
- Line manage the Credit Controller, setting clear objectives, providing regular feedback, and holding monthly one-to-ones
Purchase Ledger and Payments
- Manage the purchase ledger, including supplier invoices, payment runs, and purchase order oversight
- Resolve supplier queries promptly and manage payment terms sensibly
Payroll and VAT
- Process payroll payment runs accurately and on time, as instructed by HR
- Post payroll journals to QuickBooks and ensure payroll costs are correctly coded
- Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time
Financial Records and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in QuickBooks Online at all times
- Ensure transactions are correctly coded to the chart of accounts across our product lines
- Produce regular reporting on debtors, creditors, and cash position
- Support month-end close and provide clean, reconciled records to the CEO and external accountants
- Provide a weekly finance update covering outcomes, risks, and priorities
Process and Compliance
- Identify and implement process improvements that reduce manual effort and increase accuracy
- Maintain documented finance processes so core functions can be covered if required
- Ensure all financial activity complies with relevant UK requirements, including HMRC obligations and GDPR as it relates to financial data
- Handle all payroll, salary, and financial data with strict confidentiality
- Support external accountant reviews, providing accurate records and documentation on request
Skills
- Solid experience running day-to-day finance operations in an SME (invoicing, credit control, purchase ledger, VAT)
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online or comparable cloud accounting software
- Strong credit control and debtor management experience
- Experience line managing or supervising a junior team member, or clear readiness to step into this
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Organised and dependable, able to work independently and manage competing deadlines
- Good written communication for finance updates and customer/supplier correspondence
- High level of discretion and integrity with confidential financial and payroll data
- Based in or within commutable distance of Liverpool
Working Arrangements
Fully remote, UK-based. This role works closely with the CEO, who is Liverpool-based, with regular face-to-face one-to-ones and occasional in-person working in Liverpool, so candidates must be based in or within commutable distance of Liverpool. Monday to Friday, with flexibility around month-end periods, available during core business hours (9am to 5pm).

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
