Workshop Assistant & Asset Controller (Stores and Stock Control)

We are a specialist environmental field services business. We install, maintain and certify the monitors and data loggers that tell water companies what is actually happening inside their networks, from live foul and storm sewers to rivers, reservoirs and culverts. That data is what allows our clients to understand their assets, build resilience and cut pollution.
The scale of it: more than 4,000 monitors maintained every month, over 100 vans on the road across the UK, and more than 240 people. We are accredited by CHAS, SMAS, Achilles and FORS, and certified to ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001. In plain terms, we do this properly and we do it safely.
As Workshop Assistant & Asset Controller you will be the person who knows where the kit is.
That starts with receiving and processing incoming flow monitoring equipment deliveries, scanning and uploading assets into our asset tracking system, and keeping stock records accurate rather than roughly right.
You will organise and control stock locations across the workshop and containers, and check equipment in and out to teams and vehicles so that nothing walks and nothing sits idle.
A good part of the role is the return leg. You will manage returned and faulty equipment workflows, raise and chase RMAs with suppliers, and prepare equipment for shipment with the correct packaging and documentation.
You will support calibration and servicing workflows, help with stocktakes and reporting, and liaise with workshop teams, supervisors and suppliers about stock movements and availability.
Alongside that you will keep the workshop storage areas clean and organised and lend a hand with general workshop duties.
The equipment you will be handling is mainly wastewater flow monitors, radar level kits, sensors and loggers, and the associated flow monitoring hardware that goes with them.
This is a role where attitude and organisation count for more than a specific background, so treat the following as helpful rather than essential:
Previous workshop, stores or asset management experience
Experience using asset tracking or inventory systems
Sound IT skills, including Excel
Experience handling high-value operational equipment
An understanding of calibration and service processes
Experience on SDM projects or within flow monitoring operations
More important is how you work. We want someone organised and methodical, practical and hands-on, comfortable working independently and able to prioritise sensibly when a fast-moving operational day throws something unexpected at them. Good communication matters too, because you will be dealing with field teams, supervisors and suppliers all day.
This is not a role where you inherit a system and keep it ticking over. The asset management processes here are still being built, and the person who takes this on will have a real say in how they end up working.
