A vacancy has arisen within our Microsoft 365 Team, part of Applications and Development, for an enthusiastic, customer-focused and flexible Applications and Development Officer, with the aim of supporting and developing Microsoft 365 services for schools and commercial customers across County Durham.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
The Microsoft 365 Team supports, administers and develops Microsoft 365 and related cloud services. The work is varied and can include working independently or as part of a team in:
- Providing 1st and 2nd line support for Microsoft 365 services including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Exchange Online.
- Administering and maintaining Microsoft 365 tenants for multiple customers, including schools and commercial organisations.
- Creating and managing user accounts, licences, groups, permissions and organisational settings.
- Supporting the onboarding of new customers, including tenant setup and configuration.
- Developing and maintaining simple automation solutions, workflows and scripts using Microsoft 365 technologies such as Power Automate.
- Configuring and maintaining Microsoft Lists and related data structures to support service delivery and operational processes.
- Implementing and supporting security controls including Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access and policy management.
- Working with customers to support the effective adoption and use of Microsoft 365 technologies.
- Assisting with service improvements, testing activities and the development of Microsoft 365-based solutions.
- Maintaining documentation, support procedures and business continuity information to ensure resilience across the service.
The role will also contribute to the future development of Microsoft 365 services and support continuous improvement activities across the team. We are looking for an individual who demonstrates excellent customer service skills, has a strong interest in cloud technologies, and can communicate effectively with a wide range of users and stakeholders.

WHAT WILL I NEED?
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant discipline, or substantial relevant experience.
- Experience of working in a customer-focused environment, preferably within ICT or cloud services.
- Experience supporting users and resolving technical issues.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 services such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Exchange Online.
- An understanding of user and access management, security concepts and Microsoft 365 administration.
