Job Summary
We make carpet rugs and runners from a small warehouse in South Wimbledon.
We need an additional person to help us out who can operate an overlocker machine to whip the edges of the carpets. Someone who can use an industrial sewing machine to sew borders onto rugs and runners. Someone who can hand sew and create mitred corners.
You will need experience of working overlocker machines - this is essential.
You need to have experience of sewing and you need to be strong enough to lift rugs. If you can use a computer then this is an added bonus.
Ideally you live near to South Wimbledon and get here easily.
We need someone part time to work 1 day per week minimum but most likely this will be 2 days or even more some weeks.
You need to speak good English.
Responsibilities
- Operate sewing machines specifically designed for rug stitching and overlocking whipping to secure edges and prevent fraying
- Cut, align, and prepare rug materials for sewing processes with attention to detail
- Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues promptly, and perform basic maintenance to ensure smooth operation
- Inspect finished products for consistency, quality, and adherence to specifications
- Collaborate with team members to meet production targets while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace to promote a safe working environment
- Assist in inventory management by tracking sewing supplies and reporting shortages
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating sewing machines, particularly for rugs or similar textiles
- Strong sewing skills with an eye for detail and quality control
- Previous warehouse experience is advantageous for understanding material handling and workflow efficiency
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- Good manual dexterity, stamina, and focus to perform repetitive tasks accurately
- Basic understanding of machine troubleshooting and maintenance procedures
- Flexibility to adapt to changing production needs and schedules
