Deputy General Manager
Pastures Lodge & Hotel, Mexborough
Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week
Pastures Lodge & Hotel is looking for an experienced and hands-on Deputy General Manager to support the daily operation of our busy hotel, restaurant, bar, function facilities and family soft play area.
Working closely with management, you will take responsibility for maintaining high operational standards, supporting department managers and ensuring guests receive a consistently excellent experience.
This is a varied operational role that requires a visible management presence across the business. You will be expected to lead from the front, support busy services and events, and take full responsibility for the property in the General Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager with the overall day-to-day running of the business.
- Provide leadership and operational support across the hotel, restaurant, bar, functions, reception, housekeeping and soft play departments.
- Act as the senior manager on duty and manage the property in the General Manager’s absence.
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the venue, particularly during busy services, events and peak trading periods.
- Support the planning and delivery of weddings, functions, conferences and private events.
- Liaise directly with event organisers and guests to ensure all requirements are delivered correctly.
- Assist department managers with staffing, rotas, training, performance and service standards.
- Monitor wage costs, stock control, purchasing and departmental expenditure.
- Ensure health and safety, food safety, licensing and company procedures are consistently followed.
- Handle guest feedback and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue, service standards and operational efficiency.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and development of team members.
- Complete daily management reports, shift handovers and operational checks.
The successful candidate will:
- Have previous experience in a Deputy General Manager, Operations Manager, Hotel Manager or senior hospitality management role.
- Have strong experience within hotels, restaurants, pubs, weddings, functions or events.
- Be confident managing a busy multi-department operation.
- Be commercially aware, with experience controlling labour, stock and operating costs.
- Be a confident and supportive leader who can motivate teams and hold people accountable.
- Be organised, calm under pressure and able to make effective decisions.
- Have excellent communication and guest-service skills.
- Be comfortable working operationally and supporting departments whenever required.
- Be flexible to work evenings, late finishes, weekends and bank holidays in line with business requirements.
