The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Paralegal to join our family private law team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their experience within a busy family law environment and play an important role in supporting clients and fee earners.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, attention to detail, a commitment to client care and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Opening and maintaining client files, managing public funding applications, certificate extensions, payments on account, using government portals.
- Taking new client and witness enquiries, obtaining instructions and assisting with statement preparation.
- Attending client and professional meetings, maintaining detailed attendance notes and communicating effectively with all parties.
- Preparing and maintaining court bundles and indexes, reviewing and summarising evidence including but not limited to clients’ disclosure, medical records, contact notes and police disclosure.
- Supporting clients and advocates at court and coordinating attendance arrangements for clients, witnesses and experts.
- Assisting with fee-earning work, including drafting documentation, applications and Briefs to Counsel.
- Supporting financial control, billing and cashflow, including compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements, while working in accordance with Lexcel, quality and risk management procedures.
- Contributing to departmental activities and maintaining effective IT, telephone, administrative and communication skills appropriate to modern legal practice.
About You
We’re looking someone to join our team on a permanent basis with:
- Ideally experience in a family law or legal environment, although applications from candidates with relevant transferable experience will also be considered.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- A high level of organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- An ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a wider team
- Confident telephone manner and a client-focused approach
You must also have good proficiency in numeracy, literacy and IT skills. Experience with case management systems would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided.
