Customer Service Assistant
About the role
Roots & Vines, the Tavistock farm shop, is looking for a reliable, hands-on Customer Service Assistant to join our small team. This is a varied, all-round role — one day you're serving and helping customers, the next you're keeping the shop looking its best, restocking and merchandising, and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. If you like being busy, take pride in a well-kept shop, and enjoy dealing with people, you'll fit in well here.
It's a genuinely mixed role rather than a single job, so we're after someone happy to turn their hand to whatever the day needs.
What you'll be doing
- Serving customers and providing friendly, helpful service on the shop floor and at the till
- Keeping the shop clean, tidy and well-presented throughout the day
- Restocking shelves and merchandising displays so products look their best
- General day-to-day operations and keeping things running smoothly
- Working on your own initiative when needed, without close supervision
Who we're looking for
- Reliable, punctual and able to work unsupervised
- A friendly, helpful manner with customers
- Physically fit and comfortable with an active role — you'll be on your feet for most of your shift, with regular lifting, carrying and moving of stock
- Able to work flexibly across our opening hours (see below)
- A genuine interest in food and local produce is a real plus — you'll be talking to customers about what we sell
- Retail or customer service experience is welcome but not essential — a good attitude matters more, and we'll train you on everything you need
Hours & availability
At least 24 hours per week, worked on a rota. We need someone who can be available across our opening days: Monday to Saturday between 6am and 6pm, and Sundays 9am to 4pm. You won't work all of those hours — but the more availability you have across the week, including Saturdays, the better.
Pay
£12.80 per hour — above the National Living Wage, and the same rate for everyone regardless of age.
