We are looking for an experienced, organised and detail-oriented Bookkeeper & Accounts Controller to oversee our financial operations and help build robust financial systems as we continue to expand.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using Xero or similar accounting software.
- Manage the sales ledger, purchase ledger and general ledger.
- Process supplier invoices, customer receipts and company payments.
- Complete weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time.
- Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts and corporation tax information for external accountants.
- Support the preparation of company tax returns and ensure all statutory deadlines are met.
- Produce monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Prepare monthly profit and loss statements for each managed property.
- Prepare landlord rental income and expenditure statements.
- Monitor company cash flow and prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts.
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and monitor actual performance against budget.
- Produce financial analysis and reports to support business decision-making.
Credit Control & Debt Collection
- Monitor customer accounts and outstanding invoices.
- Proactively manage debt collection and ensure timely payment from customers.
- Chase overdue payments professionally by telephone and email.
- Resolve payment queries and maintain positive customer relationships.
- Prepare aged debtor reports and recommend appropriate actions.
Payroll & Operational Finance
- Process payroll, pensions and staff expenses, including mileage claims.
- Manage utility bills, council tax, insurance and supplier payments.
- Credit control and customer account management.
- Monitor business expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Ensure all financial records comply with company policies and HMRC requirements.
Business Support
- Liaise with external accountants, payroll providers, banks and HMRC.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and strategic financial planning.
- Support HR administration relating to payroll and employee financial records.
- Continuously improve financial controls, reporting systems and internal processes.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Bookkeeper, Accounts Controller, Assistant Accountant or Finance Officer.
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, budgeting and financial reporting.
- Experience with Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
- Good understanding of payroll and UK tax compliance.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Professional, trustworthy and highly confidential.
- Experience within property, hospitality or lettings is desirable but not essential.
