Job Overview
To work Mon-Fri 6.45-9am & 2.45-6pm term time only. We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Childcare Assistant to join our Nursery and Extended Schools team. The successful candidate will support the care, learning and wellbeing of children aged 3–10 years within our breakfast club, nursery and after-school provision.
This role involves creating a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where children feel happy, secure and valued. You will support children through play opportunities, activities, routines and positive interactions while ensuring safeguarding and welfare requirements are always met.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care and supervision for children aged 3–10 years
- Support children’s learning and development through play-based activities
- Help set up and tidy away activities and resources each day
- Prepare and serve breakfast and snacks in line with food hygiene procedures
- Build positive relationships with children, parents/carers and colleagues
- Support children’s emotional wellbeing and behaviour using positive strategies
- Ensure children are safely escorted to and from school/nursery as required
- Follow safeguarding, health & safety, behaviour management and nursery policies at all times
- Assist with daily cleaning and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment
- Observe and report any concerns regarding children’s welfare or development to senior staff
- Work as part of a team to provide a fun, engaging and inclusive environment
- Be responsible for unlocking and locking the building securely in line with nursery procedures
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 qualification in Childcare or Early Years
- Experience working with children aged 3–10 years
- A warm, caring and patient nature
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- Reliable and punctual with a flexible approach to working
Desirable Requirements
- Paediatric First Aid qualification (or willingness to complete training)
- Food Hygiene certificate
