Swindon Borough Council are on an exciting journey to transform service delivery. We want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
Your next role
We, in Housing, are committed to creating safe, welcoming, and thriving communities where everyone feels they belong. Our Neighbourhood Warden team plays a vital role in building trust, maintaining clean and safe neighbourhoods, handling environmental issues and supporting residents to feel proud of where they live. As a Neighbourhood Warden, you’ll be at the heart of that mission—working closely with other teams and services to ensure our neighbourhoods are places people are proud to call home.
What You'll Do
The Neighbourhood Warden role will deliver insert details across Council-owned properties. The postholder will be required to be able to carry out strenuous manual work, including lifting and loading of heavy items and to help maintain clean and safe neighbourhoods through a process of physical work, inspection, observation, and interaction with other teams and agencies.
Postholders are required to deliver a friendly and customer focused warden service to neighbourhoods, promoting respect for people, property and the environment.
- Provide a regular inspection service of communal areas in blocks of flats to check health
and safety issues (including preventative fire safety, reporting all defects and/or repairs and
ensuring timely follow-up) and compliance with tenancy agreement.
- Remove any immediate hazards or fly tipping, and litter pick the immediate area.
What You'll Bring
- Knowledge and experience of health and safety at work especially manual handling at work, COSHH and PPE.
- Appreciation and understanding of Housing legislation including the Social Housing Regulation Act and the consumer standard.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
The ability to travel throughout the Borough will be required and access to a vehicle to be able to support sessions and events around the town and carry out inspections.
The team operates a hybrid working model with all practitioners expected to be in the office for a minimum of two days per week.
We are not considering applications where there is a requirement to sponsor a work visa for successful applicants.
You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check

So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
