To support our continued growth and demand for our products and solutions, we are seeking a talented and commercially-minded Senior Product Engineer to join our Engineering Team in Bury St. Edmunds. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, driving product improvements and supporting both customers and manufacturing operations in a global engineering business.
Using your technical expertise and judgement, you will play a key role in supporting existing product ranges, delivering customer-driven product enhancements and contribute to product development initiatives. You will also provide technical leadership and guidance within the engineering team, while remaining a hands-on engineering contributor.

As part of the AMOT engineering group, working under limited supervision, undertake a variety of engineering tasks using knowledge, experience, initiative, and independent judgement to support global business demands. This role includes elements of team leadership, but does not carry full line manager responsibility.
- Complete engineering design and drafting work to support existing AMOT product ranges, as part of continuous improvement and business support initiatives.
- Support local Product Value Streams to deliver best-practice, high-quality manufacturing by providing technical engineering support as part of a cross-functional team, including production, planning/purchasing and quality/manufacturing engineering departments.
- Following best engineering practice, lead enhancement and/or customisation developments to existing products, as driven by customer requirements and opportunities.
- Support global engineering product development initiatives providing design, drafting, and validation testing as required.
- Manage the completion of incoming engineering support tasks based on business priorities, typically including:
- Collaborate effectively with other departments as part of a Product Value Stream, leading technical engineering support to the group. Examples of support required include:
- Technical queries arising from suppliers or inhouse manufacturing, which may require existing design/drawing review and update, following the engineering change process as above.
- Technical analysis of component parts and assemblies against engineering drawings and standards.
- Product application support.
- Provide day-to-day leadership within the Engineering function, including supporting work allocation, coordinating task priorities and monitoring progress against agreed schedules. Act as a technical point of coordination for the team, provide guidance and support to colleagues as required.
- In support of customer product/project specification requirements, manage enhancement or customisation projects on the existing product portfolio, which may include:
- Reviewing customer requirements and generating a product specification.
- The creation and management of a project plan, providing global visibility.
- Detailed design of piece-parts and assemblies.
- Detailed 2D drawings, 3D models and technical documentation.
- Prototype development and test where necessary.
- Liaison with internal departments, suppliers, and customers.
- Product release to production.
- In support of business-critical development projects, provide assistance to the development team, to include:
- Design, detailing and drafting component parts and assemblies.
- Participation in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) studies.
- Participation in regular design reviews, leading discussions surrounding the area of work involved in.
- Leading local test and qualification efforts.
- Create, or manage external services to create manuals, instruction sheets and other technical documentation for products to include procedures, limitations of use, maintenance, spares, warnings, overviews and any other relevant or necessary information.
- Follow all defined internal quality procedures, and internal design standards. Ensure that designed parts/products comply with all compulsory standards applicable to the product and country of sale.
- Accurately maintain the AMOT business and document management systems as required.
- Follow all Company Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Respond to change productively and undertake any other assigned duties as required.
Essential
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years' relevant engineering experience.
- Experience acting as a technical lead on engineering activities, with the ability to influence, guide and support others without direct line management responsibility.
- Strong experience in mechanical design and engineering support within a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced 2D drafting skills using Autodesk AutoCAD, including GD&T to BS 8888 standards.
- Strong 3D CAD modelling experience.
- Experience maintaining and developing component parts, assemblies and finished products.
- Knowledge of document control and revision management processes.
- Understanding of UK, EU and US product design and compliance standards.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple functions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
